STUDIOS is an international design practice. We work with our clients to create built environments that express the essence of their organizations. For each project, we seek to create a great experience in a way that is both pragmatic and inspiring. Our practice is led by 25 principals and is managed in a non-hierarchical way that calls for the highest level of contribution from each of over 300 staff members. We have studios in Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Washington, DC, Paris, and Lyon. Designers are highly collaborative, and strive to continually advance their technical knowledge and expertise; this has resulted in a practice that capitalizes on the collective intelligence of all individuals and studios.

Today marks a historic milestone for Garfield Elementary School as we proudly celebrate the grand reopening of the newly modernized facility in Washington, DC. With a $60.5 million renovation, Garfield Elementary has been transformed to blend modern functionality with its timeless charm. This state-of-the-art, Net-Zero ready and LEED Gold targeted school now features: public art both inside and out, celebrating creativity and culture, expanded physical education spaces, discovery commons, small group rooms, and resource rooms designed for dynamic learning and collaboration, as well as DCPS's first "teaching kitchen," set to inspire young chefs and promote healthy eating. The collaboration with the historic preservation office and the US Commission of Fine Arts successfully honored architect William Sydney Pittman’s vision. It provided the modern updates needed for the school while preserving the building’s historic charm. #DGSDelivers – We're excited to announce the completion of the Garfield ES $60.5 million modernization! This project transformed 70,300 sqft into a vibrant, sustainable learning environment for 363 students. This school is just one of the six modernizations DGS delivered this summer – representing over $400 million in modernizations and renovations; thanks to Mayor Bowser’s investments and commitment to education and improving DC’s building infrastructure. Designed with the future in mind, with sustainability features like geothermal wells, bio-retention areas, stormwater management, and flexible and open classrooms for learning, Garfield ES received a major transformation! The historic building is a vibrant learning space that includes Ward 8's first teaching kitchen, new gym, and inspiring public art commissioned through the DGS Percent for Art program; DGS is proud to deliver a space where students can succeed.
