Last week, our Creative Director Madeline Down was a selected filmmaker attending the Aesthetica Short Film Festival in York! Below are some of her takeaways from the quality short films presented. ?? Film...yes real film, is still very much in vogue - don't abandon this as a way to breakthrough with your story yet. It's very much an undying medium. ?? Indigenous stories from indigenous voices are more important than ever & are a unique window into telling the very complicated climate change story. ?? Make the damn thing. Budgets of films selected were all over the map - just because your budget is low, doesn't mean the story doesn't hold up against budgets of larger degree. ?? Fun fact: A filmmaker I met utilized a sound artist that can emulate the noise of waves and other objects with his breath work. ??

Today we celebrate ? Valdemar Huguet ? for his incredible work on Studio89's 'Downright Perfect' documentary. Valdemar is an experienced film pro, who lent his talents to the project as Audio Engineer. Not only is he the best at his craft, he brings so much compassion and heart on set. Her work includes the creation of critically acclaimed "Sound of the Seahawks" series, which garnered over 30 million impressions in two seasons and has become a fan favorite. She also led the production content powering the Throwback Uniform Launch, a campaign that was awarded 2 Clio Sports Awards in 2023. ?? Maddie’s passion for storytelling extends beyond sports. With 4 NW Emmys and 20+ international film festival selections, her work continues to be celebrated on a global scale. Madeline’s philosophy: Her singular goal is connection—creating authentic, emotionally resonant stories that bring people together.
