The Regional Emergency Communications Center (RECC) is a critical operational building within Santa Fe County. Serving six counties and municipalities, this facility initiates all public safety communications including emergency 911 and non-emergency calls, sheriff, fire, medical and animal control. The new RECC facility is a significant success, contributing to the overall quality and functionality of the public safety department. A top priority for Santa Fe County was creating a modern, calming environment that would help reduce employee turnover and provide a more supportive space for those working in high-stress roles. The new facility not only meets but exceeds these expectations, offering a significant improvement in the work environment and contributing to employee retention and satisfaction. ?? A key aspect of the facility's success is its focus on occupant wellbeing: a foundational mission for the #StudioSWCrew. Every space in the building benefits from natural daylight, filtered by a sunshade on the exterior that helps to minimize glare and helps to keep the building cool, creating a work environment employees want to work in. The project was further strengthened by the high-quality collaboration between Jaynes Corporation and Santa Fe County. The #StudioSWCrew designed the student housing building at the Navajo Preparatory School to foster a sense of being home and maximize cultural connection to Diné traditions. Sited and programmed to respect the sacred cardinal directions, with an east facing entry and social spaces at the north, this project also includes a dynamic hogan-inspired ceiling design over the shared living space. These elements, as well as Navajo design motifs and artifact display spaces, help cultivate a culturally congruent living space. Studio SW values cultural preservation and respect. This project’s design exhibits many considerations to landscapes, history and culture, including redirected passage over an existing garden, design accommodations to redirect views from a cemetery and altering building placements to honor the sites storied past. The #StudioSWCrew donned their hard hats and vests for a construction site walk-though at the Loma Linda Community Center. ?? ?? As a place mindful of accommodations necessary for children and adults with disabilities, this community center is going through some innovative design changes! Studio SW and Bohannan Huston, Inc. designed the Valencia County Transit Facility as the home of Rio Metro’s Valencia County Bus services in Las Lunas, New Mexico. ?? Designed in the spirit of the agricultural character of the surrounding area, this building includes sky lights, open ceilings, and structural truss framing as a nod to the locale’s typical hangars, hay storage, and maintenance bays structures. This aspect adheres to a central #StudioSWCrew objective: utilizing opportunities to highlight the comprehensive context of a building, including the landscape surrounding it! ?? Members of the #StudioSWCrew got down to earth at the Loma Linda Community Center garden. ?? This no-till community garden usually serves Loma Linda visitors by providing fresh produce and a safe place to socialize, reflect and/or steward the land. While the community center is under construction and implementing innovative designs from Studio Southwest, volunteers Maggie and Jeff have led crews like ours in up keeping the garden space while imparting their awesome no-till gardening advice. #ArchitectureIsGood #StudioSWProud #StudioSWCrew #ABQCommunity

This project was guided by the BioPark’s conservation message, “Our Actions Matter!” and sought to immerse visitors in both authentic Aboriginal Australian culture and Australia’s coastal landscapes. The #StudioSWCrew thoughtfully designed a journey through Freshwater, Saltwater, and Dryland Country, complete with an array of custom murals, interactive elements, and animal habitats that collectively offer a comprehensive exploration of Australian ecosystems. Studio SW believes architecture is much more than a design or physical structure and?we strive to engage in practice that satisfies our desire to create and enriches the lives of our clients and community.
