The Middle Trinity Groundwater Conservation District (MTGCD) safeguards the Trinity Aquifer, a vital but finite resource that sustains communities across Bosque, Comanche, Coryell, and Erath counties. Their mission? To ensure the quantity and quality of this essential groundwater system for generations to come. As we celebrate #GroundwaterAwarenessWeek, take a moment to explore how small actions can lead to big impacts in protecting our water resources. Every drop counts! On March 1st, Studio Outside joined Texas Trees Cool Schools initiative to present playground and green space designs for nine future Cool Schools sites across Yolo County, California! Held at Riverbank Elementary in Sacramento, this public event—funded by Calfire Urban and Community Forestry Program—showcased plans for the four Washington USD and five Woodland JUSD campuses. Attendees explored the designs while gaining insight into construction timelines and the transformative benefits of this multi-year initiative dedicated to developing more sustainable and equitable educational campuses throughout California. The event also featured an instructive planting demonstration by Tree Davis and Texas Trees, providing students with hands-on experience! The #CoolSchoolsYolo! Program represents a strategic investment in campus enhancement through thoughtful tree and greenspace integration that naturally cools temperatures on school grounds, establishes dynamic outdoor learning and play environments, and fosters nature-based educational opportunities for both educators and students. We’re proud to be part of this initiative, shaping vibrant, sustainable learning environments for the next generation! Thank you Outsiders Ellen Calhoun Denk, Meghan Obernberger, Declan Devine, Brett Bergeron, and Josh Emerson. ??: Slide 1: Glenn Lee Robinson via Texas Trees Slide 2-7: Ellen denk, Declan Devine, Megan Obernberger #CoolSchoolsYolo! #OutsidersDesign #LandscapeArchitecture #UrbanForestry #NeighborhoodParks #OutdoorLearning #NatureBasedEducation #CalFire #TexasTrees #PublicEngagement

?? Plants Don’t Just Grow—They Tell Stories ?? From childhood games with Osage orange "snowballs" to the rediscovery of Yaupon holly tea at Tylee Farm, plants have an extraordinary way of connecting us to places, people, and traditions. Inspired by Michael Pollan’s The Botany of Desire, our latest blog dives into the profound, symbiotic relationship between humans and plants. Through personal reflections and stories from the Studio Outside team, we uncover how plants shape our landscapes, memories, and cultures. The scent of jasmine evoking memories of home. The towering Redwoods inspiring awe. The irises shared through generations. Plants are more than greenery—they’re storytellers of resilience, wonder, and meaning. This July, our talented Studio Outside interns took on an exciting challenge: reimagining the Santa Fe Trail Artifact Park, a future gateway connecting Dallas' Fair Park and Deep Ellum. From exploring Dallas' "architectural boneyard" to presenting innovative designs to the Friends of the Santa Fe Trail, the week was full of creativity, collaboration, and hands-on learning. Guided by the theme of discovery, the interns crafted a vision where salvaged architectural artifacts breathe new life into a public space, preserving Dallas' history while shaping its future. Head to our blog to see how they turned history into an engaging, interactive landscape! https://ow.ly/jZ0k50U9AqI #StudioOutside #InternWeek2024 #SantaFeTrail #LandscapeDesign #DallasHistory
