Populus, our 265-room hotel in Denver, is now open for guests! Situated on a prominent site that connects civic, arts, and commercial districts, Populus opens itself up to the city and the Rocky Mountains beyond, positioning itself to become a new downtown social center. Featuring a series of distinctive windows whose geometry is informed by characteristic patterns found on native Aspen trees (Populus tremuloides), each window is designed to evoke the dark, eye-shaped marks left behind on the bark of the trees, which shed their lower branches as they grow. The hotel, operated by Aparium Hotel Group, offers guests immersive views of the nearby State Capitol, Civic Center Park, and the Rocky Mountains. Windows in select rooms feature built-in seating, providing occupiable spaces where guests can feel closer to nature. We hope you visit the next time you’re in Denver! Each fall, Women Build brings the entire Studio together as we raise funds through individual donations, in-office bake sales and art auctions, and hands-on construction of homes. This year is no different, and this Friday, we’ll be on-site in Chicago’s Grand Crossing neighborhood, tools in hand, to help build homes with Habitat for Humanity Chicago! This is the Studio’s ninth consecutive year supporting Women Build, Habitat for Humanity’s program that empowers women-led families to build strength, stability, and independence through homeownership. In addition to volunteering on-site, we’re helping raise $750,000 to support the construction of these homes. Please consider donating at the link below and follow along on Instagram this Friday! https://bit.ly/3zG3nam

"Studio Gang?has not so much restored as reclaimed this old warehouse... The consistency of the warm original flooring and heavy timber framing, now exposed and painted white as a cloud, makes the whole building feel cohesive, unfussy, sturdy as a jig you need to use over and over." Thank you The Architect's Newspaper, Jack Murphy, and Allyn West for the great write-up of our newly opened Gray Design Building, the new home for University of Kentucky College of Design! https://lnkd.in/e_-TxvaG

Yesterday we celebrated the groundbreaking for The Samuel H. Scripps Theatre Center at Hudson Valley Shakespeare, which when complete will become the first purpose-built LEED Platinum theater in the United States! For HVS’s new home, architecture and nature work together to create a transformative new cultural destination for New York and the wider performing arts community. We have designed a gently curved, timber-framed shell that opens directly onto the revitalized landscape designed by Nelson Byrd Woltz Landscape Architects and frames spectacular views of the highlands along the Hudson River. The new breeze-filled theater will extend and augment HVS's celebrated tradition of open-air and immersive performances by providing vastly improved visitor circulation, back-of-house facilities, and technical capabilities. It was great to commemorate this milestone with Governor Kathy Hochul as well as our partners at Fisher Dachs Associates, Threshold Acoustics, Thornton Tomasetti, Buro Happold, Tillotson Design Associates, Flyleaf Creative, Tectonic Engineering Consultants, Geologists & Land Surveyors, D.P.C., Consigli Construction Co., Inc., and many more. Stay tuned for updates as we set the stage for Hudson Valley Shakespeare’s 2026 season! ??

Now open in Lexington, the University of Kentucky's Gray Design Building epitomizes our design approach of “starting with what’s there”–in this case, reinventing a 100-year-old tobacco warehouse into a 21st-century hub for cross-disciplinary design education. Built in 1917, the former Reynolds Building—with its open interior floors, repetitive structural grid, and distinct moments of sectional variation—offered a promising framework for uniting all of the College’s departments for the first time, while accommodating future growth. To maximize interaction among people and disciplines, and expand opportunities for making and experimentation, the design harnesses these existing conditions and bends them in a new direction. This project has been a wonderful collaboration with the University of Kentucky College of Design, K. Norman Berry Associates Architects PLLC, Brown + Kubican Structural Engineers, CMTA, Inc., CARMAN, PritchardPeck Lighting, Ayoroa | Simmons, LLC, Turner Construction Company, and many more! We can’t wait to see how new generations of young design talent will make this building their own. Read more: https://lnkd.in/eZnAq8eN Images ? Tom Harris

Verde, our 23-story mixed-use tower in San Francisco’s Mission Rock neighborhood is open! Located at the heart of the new Mission Rock waterfront neighborhood, Verde is designed to embrace the city’s indoor-outdoor lifestyle with generous terraces and direct connections to China Basin Park, a new 5-acre public park designed by SCAPE Landscape Architecture DPC. Named for its distinctive, green-colored glazed ceramic cladding, Verde combines a range of uses across 23 stories. At ground level, a café, shops, and micro-activations offer vibrant social spaces for the new neighborhood, while upper floors host a co-working office and lounge space. Addressing the city’s need for new and more affordable housing options, 59 of the 254 units in Verde are designated for middle income households at below market rate. Verde is the fourth and final building to be completed in Mission Rock's first phase, guided by a set of design principles that Studio Gang developed as the leader of a design cohort that also included MVRDV, Henning Larsen, and WORKac. Come check out the newly revitalized Pavilion at the Lincoln Park Zoo’s Nature Boardwalk! After over a decade of framing the Chicago skyline, the Pavilion has become one of the city's most photogenic landmarks. Built in 2010, the same year as Instagram’s launch, it has served as a backdrop for photographers and countless events, from yoga classes to engagements, weddings, dance performances, and more. The Pavilion’s recently completed restoration included revitalizing the wood structure and replacing the fiberglass domes, which provide critical UV protection for open-air classes, programs, and events. Designed as a stop along the Nature Boardwalk at Lincoln Park Zoo, the Pavilion sits within a transformed landscape, which turned a picturesque, yet unsustainable urban pond from the 19th century into an ecological habitat buzzing with life. Beyond visual spectacle, the boardwalk is a crucial, connective habitat for resident and migratory animal populations, a popular outdoor destination and learning landscape for city residents and visitors alike, and a functional, self-sustaining solution to Chicago’s aging stormwater infrastructure. ??
