Studio Acting Conservatory unites a diverse community of like-minded individuals to unleash their full creative potential through quality, rigorous, and time-honored training. The Conservatory also serves as a bridge to the broader world of theater to maintain current and continued best-in-class training for the modern actor. Noted by Variety and Washingtonian Magazine, Studio Acting Conservatory is the premier training institution for actors and directors in Washington D.C. For over 40 years, 10,000 alumni have gone on to important theatre and film careers. The Conservatory is led by a 20-member faculty of committed professionals who teach 500 students— of every age and background—each year. The Conservatory also serves disadvantaged DC communities through a scholarship program that provides a theater curriculum for talented young people. Half of these students are on a full scholarship.

  • 50 Reasons Why We Love SAC! Reason #2: The Conservatory’s three-year curriculum! Developed by founder, Joy Zinoman, the curriculum is Stanislavsky-based with an emphasis on realism, the critical and necessary foundation for all actors. It was also informed by Zinoman’s experience working with classical Asian theatre form while teaching acting and directing in Asia for 15 years. The program begins with foundational work of realistic playing and characterization, continues with the classics: Shakespeare and Greek Tragedy, then tackles different styles from Comedy to Chekhov. Advanced scene study and Directing augment the curriculum. We offer Voice and Body classes, essential to the work of the actor, as well as Improvisation, Alexander Technique, Auditioning, Musical Theatre and others. Join us for our Spring semester!   • ?? Reflecting on an incredible 2024! This year has been filled with milestones, growth, and unforgettable moments––all made possible by you. As we look ahead to 2025, we’re excited to celebrate 50 years of arts education and the journey we’ve built together. Here's a sampling of what we accomplished this year: - Welcomed 17 new “graduates” to our alumni community of over 13,000 students. - Partnership with Play On Shakespeare. Presented “Power, Politics & Persuasion” in July, where board and staff read Shakespearean speeches alongside modern translations. This collaboration also sets the stage for a new class for our Young Actors Program this spring, and another public program, Shakespeare's Koolest Women, this April. - Collaborating with a Compass Pro Bono team to shape a forward-thinking marketing strategy. - Developing a new website, ready to launch in early 2025. To every student, partner, and supporter, thank you for being a part of this extraordinary journey.
