Responsibilities If you feel stuck working on the same building types or being relegated to the same repetitive tasks, we are looking for an eager learner with a passion for growing as a design professional. The person in this position will manage multiple small to medium projects, & support senior staff in the management, coordination, and development of larger complex projects. We are looking for an ambitious designer who is also an independent thinker not afraid to ask questions while actively seeking out design solutions. The ability to manage time efficiently & multi-task is important to the success of this position. Key characteristics of this role are approaching daily challenges proactively, maintaining a good sense of humor, being a team player, & embracing how one’s individual strengths can enhance & grow the firm. The designer hired for this role will be involved in all phases of projects from conceptual design through construction administration. Experience in municipal, commercial, & mixed-use buildings is preferred. Qualifications Candidates should have a minimum of 2-3 years of professional experience, on the path to licensure, with a degree in architecture from an accredited program. Candidates must demonstrate technical competence in document production to execute inspired design concepts. This job is an in-studio, full-time position. Responsibilities include assisting the project team in the coordination & detail development of all aspects of projects of various sizes, both in administrative & technical roles. The candidate must understand & value a small firm dynamic. The candidate must possess the ability to engage & communicate effectively with clients, consultants, & team members within the firm. Must be proficient in Revit, AutoCAD, & Office 365 Suite. Proficiency in Enscape, Bluebeam, & Adobe Suite is preferred but not required. The Margin District is being developed to bring new energy and extension to downtown Franklin, Tennessee’s perimeter, offering an exciting blend of luxury residential, retail, and office spaces. This development stretches approximately four blocks and responds to the growing demand for high-quality urban living, shopping, and working environments, while enhancing the appeal of the area for both residents and visitors. By preserving the historic Handy Hardware building and integrating locally inspired design elements, the project thoughtfully balances Franklin’s rich history with modern progress. The Margin District aims to foster a dynamic community space that honors the town’s heritage while providing contemporary amenities that attract new life, business, and culture to the area. The development features underground parking, over 50,000 square feet of retail space on the ground level, around 50,000 square feet of executive office space on the second floor, and twenty-five luxury residences on the third floor. Nequette was hired to design a legacy project that integrated the historic charm of downtown Franklin while addressing the need for functional space within the building height limits. The solution involved creating five distinct yet cohesive buildings in the Margin District, each designed with a unified architectural language and thoughtful detailing. This approach balanced scale, aesthetics, and the program requirements, ensuring the project felt integrated with its context while maintaining unique character. Day 3's conversation on the importance of balancing historic preservation with future progress continued with Bari Beasley sharing the accomplishments of the Heritage Foundation of Williamson County and the role they have played in saving the stories of the past along with the structures and places. This segued perfectly into Devin McClendon's presentation of the Margin District project which is saving the historic Handy Hardware Building as part of a redevelopment project along Columbia Avenue. We are very proud to be a part of this project with NAI, Nequette Architecture & Design, and a team of local consultants collaborating to preserve this historic structure, the stories of its past and enhance the Columbia Avenue and Margin Street neighborhoods as an extension of downtown Franklin.
