We're happy to share this interview with Landezine that was just published. It was a great pleasure to talk with editor Urska Skerl about a number of projects we've worked on with great people and organizations around NYC in the past few years. We also talked about Data Through Design DxD and the importance of open data. Thank you Landezine! New York City Office of Technology & Innovation, BetaNYC, Sara Hodges, Jason Forrest
Sara Eichner is a visual artist and designer with a keen interest in data visualisations and cartography. She works with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and programming languages like Python and uses design software to translate data into comprehensible visual stories. Her work is people-centred and she often uses data to represent less-heard voices. We talked about her practice and Data Through Design, about the need to have open access to public data and data creation by participatory mapping. #landschaftsarchitektur #landschaftsarchitekten #landskapsarkitektur #landscapearchitecture #landscapearchitect #publicspace #socialspace #landscapedesign #urbanism #urbanplanning #urbandesigner #landscape #landscapephotography #paisage #landschaft #paisaje #paysage #landskap #landskapsarkitekter #mapping #openstreetmap #PublicData #datathroughdesign #GIS #opensource

The Hudson Access Project launched earlier this year and has just been updated with a trove of new data! Throughout this summer two data collection fellows have been in the field documenting details about sites across the Hudson-Raritan estuary where the public can get into and onto the water. The Hudson Access Project database is a public resource and interactive map with detailed descriptions and photos of individual sites. Users can filter information according to their interests and needs to find out where they can launch or rent a kayak or canoe, fish or swim. This project is ongoing and we welcome contributions from the public! Send us notes, corrections and photos through this form (https://lnkd.in/e7Mtvbhr at [email protected] Funding and project team: Sara Hodges is a partner and co-creator of this project. It? was created in collaboration with the NY-NJ Harbor & Estuary Program (HEP Hudson River Foundation) and their Public Access Working Group (PAWG) with funding from a NYS Department of Environmental Conservation Hudson River Estuary Program River Access grant and a Pratt Center Taconic Fellowship and is hosted at Pratt Institute’s Recover Adapt Mitigate Plan (RAMP) program in the Graduate Center for Planning and the Environment. We are grateful to the 2024 data fellows Nicholas Conklin and Shahadat Hossain as well as 2023 fellow + graduate assistant Alyssa Bement. https://lnkd.in/gvUxe3NV
