One of our coaches Kylie Vos, had the privilege of facilitating a workshop with a dedicated team focused on responding to their employee engagement survey. It was inspiring to see their commitment to understanding and acting on feedback—a cornerstone of fostering strong engagement within any organisation. The team’s discussions centred around not just collecting feedback but also on understanding the drivers behind their results and actively listening to the voice of their staff.?Together they identified what actions they needed to keep, stop and start doing to continue to shift the dial on their results. When leaders take this approach, it sends a powerful message: “We hear you, and we’re taking meaningful steps to make things better.” Engagement is more than a metric—it’s a reflection of how valued employees feel in their roles. When teams know their feedback leads to change, it builds trust, motivates performance, and strengthens the overall culture. This was the second time this team had invested their time and collective thoughts in this process; the results? They have seen some big changes in their employee engagement results year on year, in fact, they are one of the top performers in their district. This team’s example highlights the power of acting on feedback and creating a workplace where everyone feels heard and empowered. How does your organisation ensure the voice of your employees is heard and acted upon? #EmployeeEngagement #LeadershipDevelopment #WorkplaceCulture #Teamwork #OrganisationalGrowth #EmpoweredTeams #DrivingChange #PerformanceAndEngagement #PeopleMattersSurvey

Being purposeful in our relationships is key to helping others grow. Leaders can make a significant impact by developing their coaching skills. Explore the four types of relationships—Advising, Mentoring, Sponsorship, and Coaching—and consider how you can expand your approach to support others effectively. #Leadership #Coaching #Mentoring #Development

How leaders grow others When engaging in developmental relationships, it’s important to be intentional about the type of support you’re offering. While these roles often overlap, and there are no clear lines, defining and designing the relationship between the person offering support and the person receiving it makes the interaction more effective. Senior leaders are often eager to give back by guiding, supporting, and championing others. When I’m asked which skills are most valuable to develop for this purpose, I always recommend a focus on learning coaching skills. Whether you’re acting as an advisor, mentor, sponsor, or coach, the ability to ask powerful questions, explore deeper truths, and listen without judgment is essential. In fact, coaching skills form the foundation for all meaningful developmental relationships. Below are four types of developmental relationships. Which do you practice—and which might you want to stretch into? 1. Advising – Advisors provide specific expertise or information, typically for a short-term need. This relationship is often driven by giving direct answers and helping someone complete a task or solve a problem. 2. Mentoring – Mentors guide by sharing their experience and wisdom, often over the long term. The mentor’s role is to provide insights based on their own career path, but this is most effective when grounded in understanding the mentee’s goals. 3. Sponsorship – Sponsors use their influence and connections to create opportunities for others. They advocate for the person they sponsor, putting their own reputation on the line to open doors and offer recognition. 4. Coaching – Coaching is about fostering self-discovery and clarity. It’s driven by asking the right questions rather than offering solutions, helping individuals align their personal values with their goals. Being intentional about which type of relationship you are fostering—and developing coaching skills to facilitate any of them—can make a profound difference in how you help others grow.

While onsite at St Vincent's Lismore, coach Michele Dobe came across a coffee mug recognising people going above and beyond and felt it was the perfect photo opportunity when she had the pleasure of catching up with Alan Cooper, CEO of St Vincent's Lismore. Coaches Jaime Thomson and Michele partner with the team at St Vincent’s Lismore, and when asked about Alan’s leadership, they said, 'Alan’s leadership is truly inspiring; his unwavering commitment to fostering a culture grounded in strong values and performance excellence is a testament to his genuine and authentic approach. Effective leadership is crucial to building strong, successful teams, and Alan exemplifies this every day.' It’s always a privilege to work alongside leaders like Alan who continuously elevate their teams and the care they provide.
