Marva Collins defied the odds—teaching Classics to underprivileged kids in the ’70s without government support and proving that school choice can empower students. Today, her legacy lives on in the movement for educational freedom, championed by leaders like Corey DeAngelis, who will join us on February 7-8 at LibertyCon International 2025. This gathering of liberty-minded thinkers from over 60 countries will explore how we can drive real change toward liberty in education and beyond. This year’s theme, “From Impossible to Inevitable,” highlights how bold ideas and determined individuals are reshaping society to give freedom and opportunity a fighting chance. DeAngelis and other dynamic speakers will share their insights and strategies for tackling challenges to liberty and choice—starting with education. Visit libertycon.com to learn more.

Innovation thrives in a capitalist system because competition pushes businesses to develop better and more affordable solutions. As Friedrich Hayek observed, the free market channels scattered knowledge, advancing progress through trial and error. Contrast this with government programs, weighed down by bureaucracy and insulated from the pressures of profit and loss. Unlike the private sector, where inefficiency invites failure, public projects often lack both competition and accountability. The result? Resources are squandered, and promised results rarely materialize. Capitalism succeeds not because it guarantees perfection but because it creates incentives to correct mistakes. Markets reward efficiency, punish waste, and adapt to the needs of society in ways central planning never can. The question isn’t whether capitalism is flawless—it’s whether any alternative comes close.

In a quiet moment this week, we hope you’ll pause to give thanks for the multitude of benefits that freedom brings to our lives. To pause like this is not to ignore the work that still needs to be done; nor does it neglect the many people around the world who don’t share the same freedoms. Rather, a moment of gratitude acknowledges that liberty is the very source that brings about the opportunity for a quiet pause in the first place.? In this way, our gratitude serves to deepen our resolve. Today, we're thankful for you, our partners in the cause of liberty. May your resolve be deepened through gratitude this Thanksgiving.

Rand warned us that socialism and fascism use similar tactics to control individual freedom. They don’t hate censorship, imprisonment, or economic control—they just hate not being the ones in charge. As their influence grows, so does the erosion of our personal liberties. At LibertyCon International 2025, we’ll explore how to defend freedom through reason and morality. Join us in Washington, D.C., on February 7-8, to learn from liberty-minded voices from around the world. Do you agree with Rand’s perspective? Visit libertycon.com to get event details.

"The root of production is man’s mind; the mind is an attribute of the individual and it does not work under orders, controls and compulsion, as centuries of stagnation have demonstrated. Progress cannot be planned by government, and it cannot be restricted or retarded; it can only be stopped, as every statist government has demonstrated." — Ayn Rand

For most of human history, famine and disease were the norm. Yet today, we live in an unprecedented era: the global population is growing, while hunger is steadily declining. This progress was once thought impossible. Intellectuals confidently predicted widespread famine unless population growth was curtailed. They were wrong. Individuals pursuing their own interests created more efficient ways to produce food and other necessities. As a result, the average American today enjoys more food, clothing, and leisure options than kings of the past could have imagined. But progress is not guaranteed. Excessive regulation now stifles the entrepreneurial energy that drives innovation. The result? Slower growth and fewer breakthroughs. Alec Stapp, co-founder of the Institute for Progress, will explain how to unleash the entrepreneurial spirit again and open the door to a new era of prosperity and peace. Want to hear more? Join us at LibertyCon International 2025 on February 7–8. Alec will join liberty-minded people from every inhabited continent and a world-class lineup of speakers, including David Friedman, Deirdre McCloskey, Bryan Caplan, and more. Interested? While collectivist ideologies insist that your only choices are to act like a child or become a “mommy” or “daddy” who dictates others’ lives, classical liberalism stands for being an adult. That’s why economist and historian Deirdre McCloskey says classical liberalism should be called “Adultism” because it’s the only ideology that truly treats people like adults. We’re not interested in micromanaging people’s lives. Instead, we aim to create a rule of law where individuals are free to pursue their own happiness. If this theme interests you… Ms. McCloskey will be joining David Friedman, Bryan Caplan, John Mackey, and attendees from over 60 countries at LibertyCon International 2025 on February 7-8.
