One mission and goal of the S3 coalition is to develop and market a Student Resource Guide, drafted by a food security AmeriCorps team through the NC Cooperative Extension Office. The students will develop the guide as organizations update, SNAP and WIC eligibility requirements change and projects progress. If you are a college student or if you work with college students, please take some time to read through the Wake County Student Resource Guide. Please reach out to [email protected] with any questions.

Student led coalition that researches and analyzes basic needs insecurities on their respective college campuses.
关于我们
S3 is a student coalition that strives to research, analyze and report on the basic needs and insecurities their colleagues are facing on their respective campuses. Students are hired, trained and equipped with the knowledge of basic needs insecurities, and the work it will take to address these issues. Those who have experienced food and housing insecurity first-hand work passionately towards a community that meets the basic needs of students so they can focus on their work and success as a student and a professional. Our S3 ambassadors are passionate about local issues being faced on their campuses including food and housing insecurities. Our students gain experience working with non-profits and the local government, while professionally developing and building their networks. All 10 student ambassadors and both consultants have completed their training with the Momentum Institute, strengthening advocacy and outreach skills in providing basic needs support for their peers. We want to thank and give a HUGE shoutout to Alexis Newman for teaching such a wonderful course, and Paige Swanson for providing this opportunity for us to build our personal and technical skills. We are so excited to move forward with our initiatives and skills learned from this course, and making a difference on our campus.

Last week, we hosted our S3 meeting at the wonderful Oak City Cares, the community's nonprofit that serves Wake County's neighbors who are experiencing homelessness. Thank you Victoria Munn for speaking to our ambassadors about the services Oak City Cares provides. We had productive conversations about basic needs and how college students, national or international, can utilize their services at any time.
