Every February, the Student National Medical Association highlights our Pipeline Mentoring Institute (PMI)! Strengthening the Pipeline is important now more than ever to continue our mission of supporting future underrepresented minority medical students. The Pipeline Mentoring Institute (PMI) seeks to close the gap in preparing underrepresented minority (URM) students for a career in medicine and other health-related professions. The PMI aims to improve general study skills, standardized test-taking skills, and science preparation through pipeline programming that promotes age-appropriate and culturally competent experiences. Furthermore, the PMI facilitates students’ exposure to health careers and professional meetings in their chosen field of interest. We achieve this goal through our various PMI academies: Pre-Medical Minority Enrichment and Development (PMED), Minority Association of Pre-Medical Students (MAPS), Health Professions Recruitment and Exposure Program (HPREP), Youth Science Enrichment Program (YSEP), and Brotherhood Alliance for Science Education(BASE).
