Valentine’s Day is around the corner, and we are collabing with UW Purple Group for Valentine’s Day (Eve) tabling ?? Stop by either at the law school or at Red Square on Valentine’s Eve to pick up a candy gram to gift to your friends and loved ones! But you know us, it’s not just about candy. We will be highlighting community organizers and uplifting the reality that many folks in our community face: being separated from their loved ones this Valentine’s Day due to man-made borders and walls. Love has no borders, and we can strive to build a world without them either ??

Yesterday, SAI Justice partnered with Thrive International Tacoma to host a volunteer asylum clinic for recently arrived folks in our community. With the help of 10 SAI Justice members, we were able to assist 10 families fill out asylum applications before their 1-year deadlines! Thank you to our volunteers and Thrive’s volunteer interpreters who contributed their time. Special thank you to e-board member Emma Tolliver and Thrive attorney Sonia Rodriguez, Esq for planning and coordinating this entire clinic. Most importantly, thank you to the clients for their graciousness as we worked together to complete (intentionally) challenging and detailed asylum forms. If you are a UW Law student and missed this volunteer clinic, please know we plan to host more clinics in the near future! There is so much need in our community, so make sure you keep an eye out for future communications/posters around the law school.

Yesterday, we were joined by four amazing panelists for SAI Justice's Social Justice Wednesday--Building Bridges, Not Barriers: Navigating Change, Challenges, and Community Advocacy in the Era of Shifting Immigration Policies. Thank you to Alejandra Pérez from the Scholar Fund, Attorney Yesenia Bosch Ramos from Northwest Immigrant Rights Project, Bill Schwarz from Northwest Immigrant Rights Project, and Karina Solano from La Resistencia NW for taking the time to speak to law students about community advocacy under the new administration. As law students and future lawyers, we hold an immense privilege to serve and empower communities impacted by changing immigration policies. Thank you to our speakers for educating us on how to get involved and ensuring that we are centering the voices of immigrants in the immigrant rights movement. Special shoutout to E-Board member Jocelyn Granados Mejia (pictured below with Alejandra) for moderating the panel!

On International Migrants Day, we honor the resilience and courage of all migrants who have sacrificed so much in search of safety and a better life. Immigrant communities across the country continue to face attacks and adversity, and it is our responsibility to support, empower, and amplify their voices in pursuit of dignity and justice. We believe that migration is a human right, and no one should be forced to live in a world divided by walls. We stand for a world without borders, where everyone has the freedom to move, live, and thrive. Make a meaningful impact today by donating to local community aid and/or mutual aid org serving recently arrived migrants--like @superfamilia_kc or @skc_e_mutual_aid if you are in King County!
