?? Our team recently visited Ann Arbor Public Schools to perform learning walks that will support the district's curriculum adoption efforts. Our e2 Learning Walk Tools were developed from the Instructional Practice Guide (IPG), and are available in mathematics and literacy versions. These tools gather non-evaluative data to create a snapshot of the teaching and learning across classrooms and/or schools through a series of brief classroom visits. ????Learn more about our Learning Walk Tools here: https://lnkd.in/gapycHdm

?? New Resource Alert! ?? We’re thrilled to introduce the "Guide to Integrating Generative AI for Deeper Literacy Learning", co-developed by AI for Education and Student Achievement Partners. This guide is designed to help educators explore whether and how GenAI tools can enhance high-quality literacy instruction. As both the technology and its educational applications are still emerging, we recognize the importance of careful integration—and addressing concerns from teachers, leaders, and students about its impact on learning. Key Principles from the Guide: ?? GenAI tools should support, not replace, productive struggle for students. ?? Prioritize AI literacy before integrating GenAI tools into the classroom. ?? GenAI should amplify educators' expertise, not substitute it. ?? Integration should enhance proven practices, not override them. ?? Always align usage with students’ developmental readiness and literacy goals. What’s Inside: ?? A framework for identifying productive vs. counterproductive struggle in literacy classrooms. ??? Practical strategies to leverage AI for engagement without diminishing critical thinking. ?? Best practices for enhancing cognitive lift—and what to avoid. ?? Detailed use cases for foundational skills, knowledge building, and writing instruction. ?? Elementary-focused guidance on teacher-led AI use and modeling. ?? Real-world examples with Chatbot transcripts to bring these practices to life. Take a sneak peek below and read the full guide here: https://lnkd.in/gyVsJbZz A special thank you to Amanda Bickerstaff, Mandy DePriest, and the AI for Education team for partnering on this work!

Last year, the Department of Education referred to bilingualism as a “superpower” when unveiling its initiative to boost multilingual education through targeted grant programs. While dual-language programs offer cultural and linguistic exchange, disparities in resources and access remain. Experts emphasize equitable support for students, early intervention, and tailored approaches to help newcomers adapt. Learn more about these insights here:

Students deserve a K-12 education system where they are seen, valued, and equipped with the knowledge, skills, and experiences to lead choice-filled, successful lives. In early October our Chief Math Program Officer, Aly Martinez, gave a powerful testimony to the California State Assembly Education and Higher Education Committees, emphasizing the need for modern, relevant math pathways that honor students' passions and prepare them for the careers of tomorrow. Restrictive policies, like the recent BOARS decision, risk sidelining innovative courses such as data science, which are crucial for thriving in today’s data-driven world. ??? First generation Latina educator disrupting the status quo, committed to empowering others to do so as well.
To say that La Cosecha 2024 was amazing would be an understatement! Rebecca De Leon and I had such a fulfilling, energizing, and affirming experience. I’m excited to bring everything we learned back to our colleagues at Student Achievement Partners. There were many great sessions and interactions, but a few made quite the impression. Michael Rodríguez your speech during opening ceremony around WHY this work is important resonated heavily, gracias. Arturo Lujan it was so great to reconnect! There’s nothing like cultivating and sustaining connections with fellow Latinos in the math field. I’m excited for potential future collaborations to support students both mathematically + linguistically across the Santa Fe Public Schools district. Lisa Meyer (Dual Language Education of New Mexico), I enjoyed your session + extending my learning around how to attend to language in order to support students in math spaces. Everything aligned closely with the work I do at SAP! Xigrid Soto-Boykin, Gladys Y. Aponte (The Children's Equity Project), + María Rosa Brea-Spahn, Ph.D. it was an HONOR to attend your session about translanguaging! Your brilliance and poder Latino was palpable. Excited to connect and learn more about the work you’re all doing. The work to increase understanding around linguistically sustaining practices in math spaces is something I am fiercely passionate about. What an honor + privilege to learn from, and alongside, others on the ground, doing the work del alma con el mismo nivel de cari?o.

In AI for Education's next free webinar Thursday 11/21 - “Integrating AI for Deeper Literacy Learning” - join Mandy DePriest and I, along with Carey Swanson and Jasmine Costello, PMP from Student Achievement Partners, where we’ll explore practical strategies for using generative AI to support productive struggle while maintaining the essential cognitive work that drives student growth. Key topics will include: STRATEGIC AI INTEGRATION Learn to differentiate between AI uses that enhance learning versus those that replace critical thinking opportunities, with special focus on elementary and secondary applications. PRACTICAL IMPLEMENTATION STRATEGIES Explore concrete for strategies like creating differentiated text resources, supporting multilingual learners, engineering effective scaffolds, and more. STUDENT-CENTERED PLANNING Master the framework for evaluating AI tools through the lens of student learning outcomes rather than technology-driven tasks. The session will also include a comprehensive downloadable guide that will provide educators with a framework for thoughtfully integrating genAI into literacy planning and instruction.
