School of Nursing Vision: We prepare highly skilled professional nurses who are culturally responsive, practice clinical excellence with ingenuity, and proactively improve whole-person healing to advance health equity and social justice. The University of St. Thomas School of Nursing seeks to help address the national nursing shortage by educating nursing students who will serve the needs of diverse urban and rural populations. The School of Nursing is proposing offering a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) upon opening, pending approval of state, national, and federal regulatory bodies. Both programs will prepare students for entry into the nursing practice.

Black History Highlight - Nursing Edition: Mary Eliza Mahoney was born in Boston on May 7, 1845 and is known for becoming the first African American licensed nurse. Although there were Black women who worked as nurses before Mahoney, she was the first to graduate from a nursing program and earn a professional degree. She was one of 42 students to be admitted into the training school at the New England Hospital for Women and Children, and only one of four to complete it. She was a life-long champion for equal rights and even co-founded the National Association of Colored Graduate Nurses (NACGN) in 1908.
