Louisiana BESE recently visited St. Tammany Parish Public Schools as a featured site for its "Bridging Success: Classroom to Career Connections Tour." As part of this statewide initiative, BESE collaborates with local school systems, businesses, and economic development organizations to expand work-based learning and internship programs across Louisiana. These events spotlight successful local programs and offer actionable strategies to strengthen partnerships between education and business. This regional roundtable event was attended by Superintendents from neighboring Northshore districts, regional and local industry leaders, BESE members, and legislators. The event was a unique opportunity to showcase our local achievements and explore innovative ways to prepare students for thriving careers. Ashley Llewellyn and Melissa Strata-Burger presented on the efforts of our Workforce Roundtable and the direct outcomes of this collaboration including the Career and College Expo, various Future Focus events, and the success of increased dual enrollment capacities with Northshore Technical Community College (NTCC) and Southeastern Louisiana University. The highlight of the event was the panel featuring Fontainebleau High School students who are currently participating in paid internships and their employers. Their conversation showcased the professional and personal development opportunities that come from work-based learning and the mutually beneficial outcomes for students and employers.
