Thank you to @drewforecast and the FOX 29 Weather Team for going live with us yesterday! We had a fun conversation about stream health, and viewers of the show got to see some of the aquatic life that can be found in our local waterways. You can watch the segment featuring Marc Peipoch, Ph.D., Stephanie Bernasconi, and Jan Battle here: https://lnkd.in/eX-JGtQ4 To learn more about what the scientists discussed on air, join us this evening for Dr. Peipoch's free science seminar: https://lnkd.in/eWwFV3QU

Advancing knowledge and stewardship of freshwater systems through global research, education, and watershed restoration.
关于我们
Mission: To advance knowledge and stewardship of freshwater systems through global research, education, and restoration. Driven by the philosophy that understanding the science of fresh water is fundamental to our ability to protect the integrity of this finite and vital resource, Stroud Water Research Center seeks to disseminate its research findings to its peers in the scientific and educational communities, as well as businesses, landowners, policy makers and individuals, to enable informed decision making that affects water quality and availability in our local communities and the world around us. We accomplish our goals through our pursuit of both basic and applied scientific research, watershed restoration programs, and through educational programs, which serve audiences ranging in age from elementary school children to adults in continuing education programs. Stroud Water Research Center undertakes applied research projects for public agencies and private corporations in an effort to provide solutions to water resource problems throughout the world.

?? New Article: Protecting Young Forest Buffers for Healthier Freshwater Ecosystems?? Forested buffers along streams and rivers are vital for protecting freshwater ecosystems. In our latest article, Heather Titanich explains how Stroud Water Research Center research has informed buffer plantings to improve success. Establishing forested buffers is no small feat. The first years are critical for young trees to thrive amid threats like flooding, invasive species, and erosion. Heather shares our best practices for buffer success, from applying protective stone mulch to strategically using herbicides and tree shelters. Each tool strengthens these young forests, ensuring they stand tall in supporting water quality and ecosystem health. ?? Thank you for the opportunity to share my thoughts about the challenges embedded in the phrase "nature-based solutions." Work at the Stroud Water Research Center and with members of the Society for Freshwater Science respects the need not only to identify and deploy new solutions but to stick around and measure results to ensure we are accomplishing the goals intended. ?? It was inspiring to see so many students committed to #water and our shared future! Please consider following the Stroud Water Research Center and Society for Freshwater Science to stay in touch and learn more about how we deploy and measure impact to refine #naturebasedsolutions.
Today we want to give you a glimpse into our 17th Annual Conference held last week at Temple University and share about David Arscott - our Keynote speaker. At Stroud Water Research Center, Dave Arscott leads efforts to protect freshwater systems through research, education, and restoration. During his presentation at the Alliance's 17th Annual Conference, David discussed how watershed restoration has evolved in response to climate change and urban development. He emphasized the growing importance of nature-based solutions like reforesting riparian zones, which improve water quality and ecosystem health. David also addressed the challenge of ensuring these solutions are properly monitored and adapted over time, urging for greater focus on research. His role at both Stroud and the Society for Freshwater Science allows him to advocate for science-driven restoration that benefits communities and the environment. Thank you all the speakers, attendees and amazing sponsors who made the conference possible: Kenvue, Pennoni, Aqua, True Elements, NORTH PHILADELPHIA ROTARY CLUB NPRC MADRUGADORES INC, University of Pennsylvania's Master of Environmental Studies & Master of Applied Geosciences Programs, and the United Nations Association of Greater Philadelphia!

As individuals managing large tracts of land, agricultural producers offer enormous opportunities for environmental stewardship and natural resources restoration.?Realizing this potential, however, depends largely on such growers taking voluntary actions that can introduce cost and risk to enterprises often characterized by razor thin profit margins.? ?? Stroud Water Research Center was pleased to take part in this research effort with Daniel Read, Lisa Wainger, and Erika Blair, to understand the complex processes at work in such behavior change, and how we as practitioners can best support growers as agents of change.? ?? UMCES Chesapeake Biological Laboratory Virginia Commonwealth University
In a new, open-access publication, we outline a suite of techniques that can be effective at engaging agricultural landowners about conservation practices depending on what stage of the adoption process they are at.
