Aloha for a greener planet. A new pilot plant in Kona, Hawaii, is set to help reduce carbon emissions—and #aquaculture operators will play a role. Developed as part of Captura's Direct Ocean Capture technology, the plant extracts excess CO2 from the ocean, enhancing its natural ability to absorb more carbon from the atmosphere. The captured CO2 will also be used by local industries, including aquaculture operators, helping to promote a greener, more sustainable future. Big news for the Last Frontier! Governor Mike Dunleavy's proposal to allow inland, closed-system finfish farming will strengthen food security, boost the economy, and provide new food sources and jobs for Alaskans, complementing the local fishing industry. #Aquaculture #AlaskanFishingIndustry
?? The #AlaskanGovernment is proposing to allow commercial #finfish farming in the state for the first time - except for #salmon species. ?? Until now, #Alaska has prohibited finfish #aquaculture except for private non-profit salmon hatcheries. The new legislation would enable "cultivation and sale of certain finfish in inland, closed system bodies of water". ?? “This legislation is a continuation of my administration’s efforts to grow Alaska’s food security by creating a new #fishfarming #industry,”?said Alaskan Governor Mike Dunleavy, announcing the new #legislation. ?? “Alaska can join other regions of the world by raising #fish that can be sold and consumed here in Alaska and be available for #export. This legislation will yield new #jobs, #economicgrowth, and a new #food source for all Alaskans," he added. Read more details here ?? https://lnkd.in/dACT7TAn

As new #tariffs take effect today, it’s more important than ever to expand sustainable U.S. aquaculture and strengthen the domestic seafood industry, reduce imports, and stabilize prices. The U.S. ranks only 18th in aquaculture production globally and imports up to 85% of its seafood. Increasing #aquaculture in U.S. federal waters is key to ensuring a more affordable, reliable seafood supply while helping reduce the U.S. $17 billion seafood trade deficit. Read more in this month's #TippingtheScales on why aquaculture growth is essential for a stronger, more resilient seafood industry amid potential trade disruptions: https://bit.ly/3R4UdcF #SeafoodTariffs #OpenOceanAquaculture

The Food and Agriculture Organization’s (FAO) 2024 State of World Fisheries and Aquaculture report highlights aquatic foods as an underutilized source of high-quality protein and essential nutrients like omega-3s, iron, and zinc. This National Protein Day, let’s recognize modern #aquaculture as one of the most eco-friendly ways to produce protein, offering a sustainable solution as the world’s population nears 9 billion by 2030. By establishing a clear path forward for open ocean aquaculture in U.S. federal waters, Congress can diversify our nation’s protein sources, enhance food security, and support environmental sustainability! #NationalProteinDay #SustainableProtein

The order aimed to strengthen the U.S. seafood industry by: ?? Expanding sustainable U.S. seafood production ?? Streamlining aquaculture permitting processes ?? Enhancing enforcement of common-sense restrictions on seafood imports that do not meet American standards ?? Establishing a Seafood Trade Task Force to develop a comprehensive interagency seafood trade strategy During President Trump’s second administration, SATS looks forward to the continued progress of federal agencies, like NOAA, in promoting the growth and competitiveness of the U.S. seafood industry.
