S.T.E.V.E. is the acronym for Striving To End Vagrancy Everywhere. It is a non-profit organization created to assist those who are homeless and desire to move toward a self-sustaining and independent existence. The vision for the organization stemmed from our founder, Stephen (Steve) Thomas’ experience as a homeless person who successfully, with assistance from various District of Columbia organizations, transitioned from homelessness and substance abuse to a career as a speaker and advocate for homeless issues. It was as a speaker that he decided that he can help others in the homeless community, as he was helped. He decided that he could and should form an organization to achieve just that. So, in consultation with friends and associates, some who were homeless, some who were part of his recovery network, some whom he’s known for many years, founded Striving To End Vagrancy Everywhere (the S.T.E.V.E. organization), a 501©3 non-profit organization.
