Working to make a difference and solve hard problems | Lead teams built on trust, authenticity and fun | Courage over comfort | Women in STEM
As we approach the end of day 1 SXSW EDU I’m already feeling invigorated and inspired. Two key messages I’m taking with me today - 1. Curiosity is more powerful than certainty. We should all be conducting mini experiments daily and embrace outcomes we don’t expect. This certainly speaks to the biochemist in me who spent an entire PhD analyzing unexpected results and replicating patterns to test hypotheses. Thank you Anne-Laure Le Cunff, PhD for your keynote. And 2. The real world and the political world are not the same — DEI is not dead! I’m relieved and grateful to hear the common sense being shared here today. DEI is not affirmative action - it impacts us all and assures our success. The better organizations reflect society the better their outcomes. Thank you STRIVE for all you do. These messages may seem obvious to many of us but in the current environment it’s great to hear them echoed by people I respect ? #dei #curiosity

We are here at #SXSWEDU in #Austin, where we had a great turnout today for a lively discussion about alternative education models that support the career aspirations of individuals facing systemic challenges. Traditional college is not viable or necessary for everyone, and today we shared insights on how people who face disruptions in their lives, including those who are justice-impacted, can get on a pathway to prosperity with the right kind of support, career skills training and employer partnerships. Thanks to our session panelists: Gregg Bishop, Executive Director, Joe and Clara Tsai Foundation Social Justice Fund; Valerie Orellana, R.N., M.S., Vice President, Human Resources, Mount Sinai Health System; Roy Castro, Founder and CEO of Castro Ventures, STRIVE board co-chair and alumni; and our moderator, Monique Baptiste, STRIVE Chief Program Officer. #STRIVE #PathwaytoPossible #economicmobility #equity
