  • We had the pleasure of being selected to pitch to the Department for Transport (DfT), United Kingdom. Our radar-based pedestrian and vehicle monitoring systems can be used in a wide range of road-based applications, and we look forward to exploring these with the DfT. Our pitch was led by Ben Heyman, our Chief Data officer, who also expanded on how data collected from our sensors on the rural road network can help the DfT achieve its objective of developing a connected and integrated transport system. If you would like to find out how our systems can help you collect data on your road network, get in touch with us, and we will show you how we use radars to deliver insights. #connectedroads #smarttransport #roadsafety

  • Floating Bus Stops: A Solution or a New Challenge? Floating bus stops?were designed to improve cyclist safety by routing cycle lanes between the pavement and bus boarding areas. However, their implementation has raised significant concerns: Unintended Consequences:?Pedestrians, especially those with visual impairments, face challenges crossing active cycle lanes to access buses. The National Federation of the Blind has called for a ban on these designs, citing safety risks. Real vs. Perceived Risks: Transport for London?acknowledges these concerns but notes that the likelihood of injury at such stops is "very low." At?Streetwise Technology, we believe innovative solutions can address these challenges: ??Dynamic Alerts:?Implementing real-time notifications to both cyclists and pedestrians to ensure safe crossings. ??Data-Driven Design:?Utilising behavioural data to inform infrastructure improvements, enhancing safety and accessibility. ??Inclusive Features:?Incorporating technologies like Bluetooth SIG #auracast and NFC connectivity to assist all users, including those with disabilities. ???Join the Conversation:?What are your experiences with floating bus stops? How can technology play a role in making our streets safer for everyone? • Yesterday, we hosted an innovation session at the Transport for London offices that brought together a diverse group of road users to explore the lived experiences of people with different accessibility needs when crossing the road. At Streetwise Technology, we believe the only way to create meaningful solutions is by designing products alongside the people who face these challenges every day. Led by Michael Barratt MBE the session included invaluable contributions from individuals representing the visually impaired, neurodivergent, and tetraplegic communities. We also heard from three women who shared powerful insights on the importance of safety for women at night and the lasting impact of near-miss incidents. This session reinforced the importance of listening, learning, and engaging with all community members as we continue to develop our pedestrian crossing features. Our goal is not just to make roads safer but to ensure every crossing provides equal opportunities for all. Together, we’re working toward a future where everyone feels confident and secure when crossing the road. A special thanks to Michael Barratt MBE for arranging and leading and Dominic Coleman for valuable insights. #strongertogether #promotingequality #equalaccess

DfT Freight Innovation Grant: Tackling Freight Challenges Through Collaboration I?was pleased to represent Streetwise Technology and attend the concluding event of the Department for Transport (DfT), United Kingdom Collaborative Tech Stacking grant.?I had the opportunity to provide an overview of our project and the insights gained from it. #techstacking is a genuinely innovative approach to derisk innovation that the DfT has backed to tackle some of the most significant challenges in freight and logistics. Through the collaboration with Portsmouth International Port , University of Sussex and Entopy I found the key benefits were: Delivering solutions that scale: Portsmouth International Port is a member of our consortium, so we could build solutions that scale across the organisation and avoid repeating past trials. Delivering solutions quickly: By partnering with technology companies, we are dealing with mature technologies that can be deployed now rather than having to be developed by us. Tackling larger challenges: Our collective approach and diverse expertise enabled us to tackle a challenge that one entity could not hope to solve alone. The power of tech stacking and collaboratively approaching challenges is substantial, and I’d like to thank Francesca Caramelle-Ngoma, Yusuf C. Connected Places Catapult, and the Department for Transport (DfT), United Kingdom for the opportunity to build our solution. I look forward to working with them as we proceed with our trials.
