Streets Reimagined recently entered its tenth year. Below is a flavour of what we’ve been up to. Community-led Masterplanning, Southmead, Bristol. Since 2018 we have been working with the Southmead community in Bristol, initially to shape the strategic master plan and more recently to help to detail the public realm to be responsive to community needs and aspirations. One of the largest projects of it's kind in the UK, it will see the local centre reimagined as an expanded high street with an enhanced streetscape, community spaces and affordable new homes.? We've been inspired by this passionate community that came together to find solutions to the housing crises and to transform their local environment. Stroud Street Spaces Commissioned as lead consultants by Stroud Town Council, the team undertook extensive community research and developed a place and movement strategy to reimagine the historic and hilly town-centre streets as more attractive places for walking and cycling. Govandi Arts Festival, Mumbai. India. Over 2022 / 2023 we had the privilege to learn about the incredibly talented, yet underserved community of Govandi in Mumbai, India. Working with Indian and UK partners we supported the delivery of a week long Arts Festival which reimagined an intense urban landscape into a colourful and joyful stage to showcase local creative talent. Bathampton Meadows Green Corridor On behalf of the National Trust we carried out research with the local community and disability advocacy groups to help inform proposals for a 44 hectare green / blue corridor linking the historic core of Bath to the surrounding countryside. This ambitious project aims to both enhance wildlife habitats and improve access and connections. Not on the Buses Recognising the critical role of buses in enabling social inclusion for many young people, this research project with Professor Antonia Layard explored the potential for free bus travel for children. It included research interviews with professionals, politicians and bus company operators. The Oval Reimagined, Lambeth This ambitious project seeks to radically reimagine a number of streets next to the Oval Cricket stadium in Lambeth, London as safer places where children can have confidence to explore their neighbourhoods and where it is easier to walk, cycle and wheel. ? We’ve been undertaking research with the community, including design workshops with local schools to help inspire and shape the proposals. The emerging proposals are part of a trial scheme and at a recent street party one resident commented: “It has opened mindsets.. it creates more connections. I’ve seen people sharing food… it brings people together from di?erent cultures and religions into one culture together” If success is the culmination of many small victories then we'll take this as a good sign. ?? There are too many to mention in a LinkedIn post but a massive thank you to all our partners, clients and communities.

Great to see this project moving forward. It was a great team to work with and the results so far are looking great. You can really see how the creative ideas from local schoolchildren and the wider community has helped to shape this colourful trial. Looking forward to the next steps.
Kennington Oval Reimagined. The Kennington Oval Healthy Streets trial is now in full swing! Colourful planters, seating, natural play and graphics have transformed the streets into vibrant, playful and pedestrian-friendly spaces. The trial follows extensive collaboration with London Borough of Lambeth and local schools, residents and businesses to develop designs that prioritise people. With the health and well-being of children at it’s heart, the scheme creates a welcoming space enabling young people to move freely and safely in their neighbourhood. It’s always a good feeling to be invited back by a community to continue working on a project with them. Even more so when that community is Southmead in Bristol and the project is one of the largest community-led housing and regeneration projects in the country which has the potential to make such a positive difference to people’s lives. Having previously supported the evolution of the master plan, we are now working closely with the local community, Southmead Development Trust and our partners Churchman Thornhill Finch to help shape the proposed public realm and internal courtyard spaces to be responsive to community needs and aspirations. This has included interactive workshops and site visits with community members including amazing young people from The Ranch Adventure Playground, WECIL (West of England Centre For Inclusive Living) and local business owners. We are looking forward to seeing these proposals progress into more detail in the coming months and for spades to break ground before long.

We were delighted to be able to support West of England Irish with the street parade planning for this wonderful St Patrick's Day Event which brought a splash of colour and joy to the streets of Bristol over the weekend. https://lnkd.in/e2UAyHHE
