Black representation in tech remains far too low. Despite ongoing efforts from tech firms, only 2.5% of employees in Silicon Valley are Black, and the lack of diversity is felt in every corner of the tech industry. Black professionals often face isolation, exclusion, and unequal opportunities, making it harder for them to thrive in the field. At Streetcode, we are working every day to change that. By providing access to tech education, mentorship, and networks, we’re helping to create pathways to success for young Black innovators. 7 years, 1% increase: Black representation in tech barely improving." Despite efforts from tech companies to improve diversity, the racial composition of the workforce has seen minimal change. A recent study by The Kapor Center and the NAACP found that Black professionals occupy just 3.7% of technical roles at large tech companies, despite making up 13% of the overall labor force. Additionally, Black professionals make up only 4% of executive roles, highlighting a significant gap in representation across all levels. At Streetcode, we believe that real change starts with providing the right resources, mentorship, and opportunities to underserved communities.
