This powerful article by LeRon L. Barton highlights the reality for Black professionals navigating the tech industry. LeRon’s personal account sheds light on the persistent barriers and biases Black individuals face in tech—a field still dominated by homogeneity, where representation remains a pressing issue. The article discusses how being one of the few Black voices in tech impacts identity, mental health, and career progression, and why creating truly inclusive workplaces requires more than just surface-level diversity initiatives. At StreetCode, we’re committed to supporting underserved communities with the skills, mentorship, and networks they need to thrive in tech. This isn’t just about representation; it’s about building a tech industry where everyone’s voice and experience are respected and valued: https://lnkd.in/gYvPn5eA #tech #technews #equalaccess #futureleaders #techeducation

We’re so grateful to hear from families who are experiencing the impact of StreetCode firsthand. Here’s what one parent had to say about bringing their kids, ages 6 and 15, to our programs in Menlo Park and East Palo Alto: "I love this platform StreetCode has in the community of Menlo Park and East Palo Alto.. This is very inspiring for the Children and the Adults to gain skills in the Tech world and have head start on their future... The adults are able to increase their understanding of the Tech community and to develop the skills to grow their business or skill to start their business.. I live in San Jose Ca and Both of my kids 6 and 15 had a great time!”- Dorothy H. Thank you for being part of the StreetCode family and for believing in our mission to bridge the gap in tech access and education! ??? #tech #review #youthintech #empoweringyouth #equity

Sometimes I would feel down on myself, thinking I'm not making that much of an impact as a game development teacher. But then I'd get a comment like this on one of my videos and my eyes light up ?? StreetCode Academy was a volunteer job I did teaching game design and development to students aged 5 to 12. It makes all the difference!

In her article, "5 Ways Tech Companies Can Benefit From New BIPOC Founders," author Kalina Bryant highlights a powerful trend: more professionals in underserved communities, especially Black women, are leaving traditional tech roles to become entrepreneurs. This shift represents both a challenge and an opportunity for the tech industry. As founders in underserved communities bring unique perspectives and lived experiences, tech companies have a chance to foster real innovation, cultural competency, and expanded market reach by supporting these new leaders. This isn’t just about filling diversity quotas; it’s about creating products and solutions that resonate with broader communities and tapping into talent that can drive business growth. At StreetCode Academy, we are committed to building a pipeline of talent ready to lead and innovate in tech. We believe that with the right support, these founders can reshape the tech industry, making it more inclusive, innovative, and impactful for all. ??
