This #WorldSleepDay, the world is talking about how to make sleep health a priority. But what's the importance of peaceful and uninterrupted sleep? Good sleep aids muscle repair and growth, boosts heart health, helps manage your metabolism, clears out excess metabolic by-products, and replenishes your immune and lymphatic systems. The quality of your sleep is also linked to how your appetite is regulated and can also trigger changes in insulin sensitivity. Beyond the physical aspects of health, it improves mood, cognitive function, memory, and concentration. Your fertility potential is also affected by the amount of sleep you get. This is because your luteinizing hormone (LH) levels change during sleep and can affect ovulation. However, a lack of sound sleep can be an indicator of a hormonal imbalance. Studies show that women who are in the perimenopause/menopause stage face difficulty sleeping due to a change in ovarian hormone levels like estrogen. This research article explains how changes in estrogen can affect the quality of your sleep at different ages: https://lnkd.in/ewSbRzRq If you're having trouble sleeping and nothing else helps, it may be beneficial to take a closer look at your hormones. Our painless, at-home hormone test helps you monitor your estrogen levels in the comfort of your home. Head on over to our page to learn more. ?? ?? When I was 14, I came home from my sister’s wedding, excited to tell my grandmother every detail of the day. She listened intently at first – then, just a minute later, asked me the exact same questions all over again. And again. Confusion quickly gave way to dread: something wasn’t right. Within two years, she needed help with even the simplest tasks, and I lost her far too soon to Alzheimer’s. That heartbreaking experience fuels my passion about women’s health today.?Two-thirds of Americans with Alzheimer’s are women, which means our daily choices matter more than ever. I recently came across a conversation (linked in comments) with neuroscientist and NYU professor?Wendy Suzuki, who has dedicated years of research to understanding how lifestyle choices influence our brains. I'd like to highlight the points she makes: – Exercise is a brain fuel “All the research shows the more you exercise, the more change in your brain,” Dr. Suzuki shared. Every drop of sweat counts toward a stronger hippocampus (memory) and a more agile prefrontal cortex (focus + decision-making). A daily walk can literally reshape your brain for the better. – Diet matters “If it’s on the Mediterranean diet, go ahead,” Suzuki says, emphasizing whole, colorful, non-processed foods. We’re talking vegetables, fruits, fish, and healthy fats – an approach that’s been linked repeatedly to lower dementia risk. – Social connections matter Feeling isolated is linked to actual brain shrinkage. Staying connected helps us maintain a sense of belonging and keeps our minds active. – Quality sleep is essential “You cannot function if you are deprived of sleep,” she reminds us. Sleep is when our brains do the ‘clean-up’ work – clearing out metabolic waste and consolidating memories. – Stress management Simple habits like breathwork can lower the stress response, which is critical because chronic anxiety can harm our cognitive function over time. Learning about these strategies inspires me to stay proactive – for myself, for my loved ones, and for other women who are at risk.?Alzheimer’s is terrifying and unpredictable, but the best science out there suggests that consistent, healthy habits really can tilt the odds in our favor. Have you made any small changes lately to protect your brain? #alzheimers #womenshealth #brainhealth #healthyhabits #exerciseforhealth #socialconnections #sleepbetter #stressrelief #mediterraneandiet #lifestylechoices — I’m Svetlana Kazantseva, co-founder of Strawberry Health, where we empower women to stay on top of their hormonal health.
