Words Matter: Let’s Choose Kindness Lately, we’ve noticed the R-word creeping back into conversations, online and in person. Maybe it’s meant as a joke or just an old habit—but here’s the thing: it still hurts. For people with intellectual disabilities and their families, this word isn’t just outdated—it’s offensive. It reduces real people to a slur, reinforcing harmful stereotypes and making the world a little less kind. We believe in dignity, respect, and unity. Words have power, and choosing better ones helps create a world where everyone feels valued.
