Patients with chronic epilepsy have a 3-fold greater risk of dying from cardiac arrest, and in 66% of cases, the arrest took place during normal activity with no link to seizures. Research by Verrier and Pang has shown that chronic epilepsy has a “negative impact on the structural integrity of the heart. Concurrent EEG & ECG monitoring is crucial for identifying the "Epileptic Heart Syndrome," where chronic epilepsy can affect cardiac structure and function, leading to increased risk of cardiac arrhythmias and complications. Why is Video Important in EEG?

Late last year, our Chief Medical Officer, Jeremy Slater, MD, Medical Director, Selim Benbadis, MD, and Medical Advisory Board Member, Richard Verrier, Ph.D., published an article that concludes that "concurrent electrocardiogram (ECG) and electroencephalogram (EEG) recordings should be the standard protocol for epilepsy patients to ensure comprehensive patient care, improve diagnostic accuracy, and potentially reduce epilepsy-related morbidity and mortality."
