We are so excited to have the phenomenal Jacqueline Geis join us at Strategy for Humanity!
Last year, I took a big leap. The most common predicate to that sentence is “into the unknown,” but that’s not the case here. True, I didn’t leap into a new job or into a new organization. True, I had no shortage of ideas, but not much solidly lined up. That may seem like the unknown to many. Indeed, one person told me it was “the stupidest idea he had heard in while.” But, for me, while it was unstructured, it wasn’t the unknown. It was a leap into a new phase of discovery; a leap into being okay with not having everything figured out. It was a leap into a new way of defining and thinking about my work and my life. Into discovering new way of leading, building, and learning *outside* of an organization, from a place that feels honest to where I am in my life. What is driving this phase of my life right now is building and connecting. I want to: ?? Build and better fields of practice, particularly around #HumanRights documentation ?? Assist leaders to build #strategies and the organizational scaffolding necessary to maximize impact ?? Connect silos and “translate” the coded languages that those deeply entrenched in various fields (and institutions) often speak to build common ground and spur action. At the moment, I am collaborating with some great people to further this work: 1.??????I’ve joined forces with Alex Arriaga, Charlie Brown, and the amazing crew at Strategy for Humanity to help a range of organizations build strategies, synthesize learnings, and strengthen operations. 2.??????In concert – and in conversation – with a range of stakeholders, I am endeavoring to ensure that trusted, verified information – particularly human rights documentation – is available and useable over the long term. I am honored to be doing this work as part of my research fellowship at Human Rights Center, UC Berkeley School of Law under the leadership of Dr. Alexa Koenig and Betsy Popken. 3.??????I’m assisting the leadership of Protection Approaches envisioning what their next 10 years will look like as a #trustee. Do you want to work on these things together??Is there a question or an issue that you’ve been putting off, but that needs some dedicated attention??A #consultancy role where you think I’d add value? Please reach out! I'd love to build alongside you! #Justice #ConsultancyServices #leadership #socialimpact

Delighted to report that today, Sen. Benjamin Cardin introduced the Human Rights Defenders Act of 2024, new legislation designed to push this and future Administrations to do more to protect activists, journalists, lawyers, environmentalists, educators, faith practitioners, and anyone else who is targeted, attacked, imprisoned, disappeared, or killed for peacefully speaking out in support of human rights. The bill is the product of three years of extraordinarily hard work by EarthRights International (in partnership with Oxfam, Amnesty International USA, and Strategy for Humanity). A big thank you to Senator Cardin and his extraordinary team at the United States Senate Committee on Foreign Relations for their leadership! Of course the bill's introduction is only the beginning. Now comes the hard work of securing passage. I hope you'll consider reaching out to your Senators and Member of Congress and urge them to co-sponsor and/or support passage of this essential bill. https://lnkd.in/efG7A9AC

Speaking as a survivor, I'm so thankful for Daniela Ligiero (she/her) and Brisa De Angulo's critical work to center survivors' voices in the global campaign to prevent violence against women and children. It's been our honor at Strategy for Humanity to work with Together for Girls, the Brave Movement, and A Breeze of Hope to support their incredible work.
? Existing frameworks to prevent violence against women and children do not meet the needs of survivors. Only a survivor-centred framework based on prevention, healing and justice can guide us toward transformative action.?
