Now that the FOMC shows a more dovish outlook over the next few years, the question is: How will banks respond when interest rates begin to descend? To mitigate the impact of these changes, it’s crucial for businesses to: ?? Ensure clear communication with banks to establish proportional responses to changes in ECR and interest rates and an acceptable timing. ?? Negotiate fair terms that reflect a reasonable share of any rate decrease. Clients with an ECR significantly lower than the federal funds rate shouldn’t expect an immediate decrease in their ECR. ?? Review PEG balances monthly if your bank requires a predetermined target balance. As rates fluctuate, a lower ECR will demand a higher PEG balance. ?? Negotiate fair prices for your bank transactions. High ECR rates can, most often, hide an ineffective bank pricing structure. ?? Why does it matter? ?? Significant! Our research indicates that the average large cap companies maintain an average collected balance of approximately $17.5mm. A 50 bp rate reduction will automatically increase your annual bank fees by $87,500.
