Strategenius' visit to University Lake School earlier this month was so uplifting!?From the moment Ara Brown, Ed.D. and Nancy Nanka-Bruce stepped onto the beautiful 180-acre campus, they felt the warmth of a community that truly knows the meaning of connection. At ULS, every child is celebrated for who they are. It’s a place where respect, acceptance, and individualized attention shine through in every interaction. Teachers and students share a deep trust, and you can see how this environment sparks curiosity and a genuine love of learning. And the joy of learning isn’t confined to the classroom—students explore nature trails during gym class, immerse themselves in leadership opportunities, and take part in hands-on projects that extend far beyond textbooks.?What makes ULS stand out most? The overwhelming sense of home. It’s a place where students, families, teachers, and peers come together to lift one another up, creating a truly inclusive space where everyone is known and valued. Our deep thanks to Head of School, John Dewis, and Assistant Head of School for Academics, Rebecca Tiffany, for welcoming us to your community and hosting us throughout our visit. ULS is looking to hire an Upper School Head to start in July 2025. Ara Brown, Ed.D., Julie Brown, and Nancy Nanka-Bruce spent an inspiring day last month at St. Mark's School, meeting with student leaders and community members! We were struck by the school's commitment to fostering genuine connections through small classes and comprehensive learning experiences that go far beyond traditional academics. Students shared their enthusiasm for the diverse opportunities in academics, athletics, arts, and experiential learning programs. What stood out for us is the strong sense of community and the way learning extends seamlessly from the classroom into all aspects of campus life. The school's foundation in values like integrity and kindness is evident in every interaction. Our deep thanks to Head of School, Ivory Hills, for welcoming Strategenius to campus and to all of the students, faculty, staff, and administrators who shared their knowledge with us. St. Mark's is looking to hire both a Dean of Faculty/Assistant head of School and an Academic Dean/Assistant Head of School to start in July 2025. NEW LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITY The Calhoun School, a progressive Pre-K through 12th grade institution in New York City, seeks an experienced, collaborative, and innovative systems thinker to serve as its next Dean of Diversity, Equity, and Belonging. For nearly 130 years, Calhoun has centered its students, remaining deeply rooted in the values of diversity, social justice, and community engagement. Known for its open-concept layout, this "school without walls" is designed to break down barriers—between disciplines, ideas, and people—fostering flexibility, sparking inquiry, and creating meaningful connections. Calhoun graduates leave with the ability to think critically and creatively, equipped with the adventurous spirit and self-confidence to navigate any challenge. Reporting directly to the Head of School, Celeste Herrera, the Dean of Diversity, Equity, and Belonging is an essential member of the senior leadership team and one of the few roles that engages across all grades and divisions. The Dean will serve as both a strategic leader and hands-on practitioner, charged with creating a more integrated and holistic approach that builds bridges across different constituencies. Working in partnership with students, faculty, parents, and alumni, the Dean will engage the community through curriculum integration, established affinity groups, professional development, and parent and alumni partnerships. Having a strong affinity for working with students is vital in the Dean of Diversity, Equity, and Belonging. Helping to strengthen DEIB work and understanding in Lower and Middle Schools and diving deeply into student-run affinity groups in Upper School will be essential. Overall, the ideal candidate will bring proven experience in navigating complex DEIB initiatives while offering fresh perspectives on how to deepen and evolve these efforts.
