Streaming TV in the beginning = high school me going on Hulu to binge The Office and 30Rock on a laptop. Netflix the DVD rental-by-mail service had a small % of the movies on demand. Prime Video was a little thing that came with your free shipping that you never watched. Fast forward to 2025, the early streamers are giants….AND free streamers like The Roku Channel and Tubi have more time spent than Peacock, Paramount, and Max. ?? The only constant is change- that’s one of the things I love about being in this space. And why it doesn’t get boring! ????

Two trends are driving CTV’s growth: 1. Viewers’ preference for the improved flexibility and accessibility of streaming. 2. Advertisers’ demand for the measurability of digital ad channels. While these are two separate trends, they also coincide: By activating the full suite of capabilities offered by programmatic advertising, industry players can design more thoughtful, audience-centric campaigns based on what the data shows. But this only works if vendors across the CTV landscape collaborate to connect disparate data sources and eliminate walled garden fragmentation. Blockgraph and VideoAmp's partnership is another step in this direction, and it’s one that I applaud. Two things can be true at once. Is AI democratizing connected TV advertising for small and medium businesses? ? Absolutely, no doubt about it. Are most of those businesses able to take TV advertising in house thanks to automation? ? No. At least not yet. ????????’?? ??????: One of the most compelling capabilities of CTV advertising is the programmatic execution, allowing businesses to only target the households most likely to buy their products or services. It’s for this reason that TV media buying is now within reach of mom-and-pop shops. And even better, AI video creation is eliminating another major barrier we see with our clients: The need for fast and affordable production-quality creative. But does this mean that we’ve reached a utopia where cornerstore hairdressers can run their own CTV campaigns much like they would a Facebook or Google campaign? Not from my perspective. There are two reasons why self-serve CTV isn’t yet a viable option for SMBs: 1. ??????????????????????????: Unlike the Google and Meta ecosystems, there isn’t a single dominant platform that can offer access to all the inventory, content and the audiences a company would need to run scalable and effective campaigns 2. ????????????????????: Despite all the automation out there, CTV advertising is still infinitely more complex and daunting than running an ad campaign on Instagram.
