This is one of my favorite quotes of all time from The Matrix Reloaded and highlights the idea that combat reveals a person's true character and capabilities. ???? Savvy business people subscribe to the principle that the long-term relationship is more important than a short-term gain. Absolutely true in my experience. ?????? I have a pretty well conceived idea of how this principal is put into action. I negotiate real estate deals for a living, multiple times every month, and I’ve been doing so consistently for over a decade. ???????? How you handle the initial challenges in any exchange with another person, is the key factor in determining whether it will be a one-time interaction or the foundation for lasting success (transactional vs progromatic). ?????????? Friction in a relationship isn't just beneficial—it's essential. I sat down with David Dowdy from The Business Spotlight Podcast. We talked about entrepreneurship and my personal business journey with Strata SFR. I love talking to people like David who is fellow Lake Norman, NC business owner and Business Coach , because it gives me a chance to take stock of both the success that I've had in my life and with Strata, as well as the challenges and speedbumps I've encountered along the way. There were plenty of them. In a challenging environment in real estate, and more broadly in the US and economy right now, I think allot of people are struggling to plot a path forward to find their footing, find meaning in what they are doing, or to look out over the horizon for the better days ahead. Whatever may be the case, I've always believed that doing the work of intentionally plotting your course, whether its through calm waters or stormy ones, is all just part of the journey. After the most recent Single Family Rental Conference Strata attended in Miami, I've made it a point to sound off on my top take-aways after all of the meetings and conversations the Strata SFR team had with buyers, owners, lenders and everyone in between. This conference was pretty eye opening. One thing is for sure, SFR as an asset class is just as strong in terms of demand from investors wanting to leverage SFR for investment. However, who is deploying that capital and the strategies they are perusing are more varied today than they were in the past. The key for the dozens of operators seeking investment opportunities is sourcing directly from other SFR operators looking to exit and from builders. Strata SFR has built our business on being that source for many investors and we are consistently on the lookout for buyers that have buy-strategies we can add value to in terms of sourcing.
