One of the many approaches to Narrative Listening is to hear out the entire life of one person, what we have called a Timeline Interview. Any person who has lived a life is eligible. Rich Feller Ph.D. LPC, JCTC has used that one life to do extraordinary work in the Career Development world and beyond. Since vocation is so important to the Storylisteners model, we decided the first Timeline Interview with him made perfect sense. We wanted to direct you to Episode 4, where Rich reflects with Michael Humphrey on the meaning of his work, his relationships, and looks forward (which is the ultimate goal of Narrative Listening) at what is to come.

关于我们
Storylisteners is a research project in the Journalism and Media Communication department of Colorado State University. We listen to the storylisteners, people whose vocations and interests guide them to listen for the narratives in people's lives that construct their identity. And instead of doing research in the traditional way, we create a podcast of our interviews and the discussions about them. Each season will focus on an archetype of those who practice and refine storylistening: Healers, Seekers, Teachers, Tellers, Leaders, [we are open to ideas]. Every person we listen to is a partner, and each helps us think through the episode about them. That takes time, but it is a good principle of engaged scholarship and of storylistening.

Democracy often evokes thoughts of voting, debate, and deliberation. But democracies also thrive with good storytelling and clear listening. Last week we posted a three-part series on narrative listening and democracy, featuring four members of CSU's College of Liberal Arts: Spanish professor Andrea Purdy discusses translation as listening: https://lnkd.in/gZGrBC3V Associate Dean and theatre scholar Ryan Claycomb talks about the state of Verbatim Theater: https://lnkd.in/gSXaGBRc Journalism faculty and documentarians Steven Weiss and Jesse Grace describe telling the story of mail-in voting during COVID and attacks on the election process: https://lnkd.in/gnxw9Pwt We hope you enjoy them!

One of the advantages of creating a podcast is the opportunity to learn on a weekly basis right in the studio. This week, we delved into the intricacies of narrative listening theory with a guest who holds a dear place in my heart. Tune in to catch my interview with "Patient Lee" Tomlinson, a healer whom I've had the pleasure of knowing for several years, on the Storylisteners podcast. Lee's story embodies perseverance, adventure, love, and most importantly, kindness. Our conversation sheds light on how these virtues contribute to his strong emphasis on the significance of healing listening. https://lnkd.in/gZF_3c74

We are excited to explore other realms of healing and we started close to home!
The first half of the Healers season of the Storylisteners podcast has been ripe with guests from more traditional backgrounds: an ER doctor, therapists, a veterinarian, and someone who works in reception for a medical center. In the second half of the season, we've pivoted to less traditional forms of healing. To kick this off, Alexis Austere interviewed my mother, Sarah Mitchell, about her career as a life coach who uses medium work to inform her client sessions. I had the honor of sitting in the studio while our team discussed the interview and had multiple moments when I was moved to tears. Having your kin recognized for the magic they bring into the world is special. I hope you'll take the time in your day to listen and send a note of love to the people who've carried you this far.
