We are excited to spotlight the progress of #OHLAUSA’s Alondra Park Multi-Benefit Stormwater Capture project in Lawndale, California.
This innovative project will feature an enormous capture reservoir capable of storing 12.7M gallons of stormwater and a park with sports and turf fields that will be constructed atop the 250,000-square-foot chamber.
Pictured are the Alondra team members 30 feet below ground installing numerous precast concrete chambers, which will number 3,200 when fully installed on site!?These chambers, together with detention, infiltration, sedimentation equipment, and a network of piping will remove contaminants from stormwater runoff to protect nearby waterways.
Once the soil has been restored to cover the capture chamber, OHLA will revitalize the park with new soccer and multi-purpose turf fields.?This part of the contract also includes rehabilitating two existing baseball fields and planting native and drought-tolerant vegetation and trees, bioswales, and permeable pavements.
The major scopes of work include extensive support of excavation to remove 250,000 cubic yards of soil, installation of stormwater pipes and equipment, and the construction of diversion, junction, and manhole structures.
?
A big thank you to our subcontractor, StormTrap headquartered in Romeoville, Illinois.?StormTrap is the fabricator of the 3,200 concrete chambers and is doing a great job for our team by keeping fabrication and delivery on schedule!
?
This $56 million project is on target for substantial completion next fall and is one of many water infrastructure projects in OHLA’s portfolio that safeguard the environment and protect California’s precious water supply.
