On the subject of advancing the UK's decarbonisation goals, Nic emphasised the importance of the Scottish Cluster, a CCS transport & storage system, expected to be able to capture around 90% of the industrial emissions generated in the country. “CCS can play a really important role in capturing hard to abate emissions” such as those from steel and cement production. Crucially, Nic highlighted how Acorn can be a driver of sustainable growth for communities, “with North Sea oil and gas production in decline, projects like Acorn and those in the Scottish Cluster provide a vital opportunity to sustain the UK’s energy expertise, supply chain and workforce”. ??♀? Storegga has reached a critical milestone for its Speyside Hydrogen project with the appointment of Wood to undertake the Front-End Engineering Design (FEED). The appointment of Wood marks a significant step towards the realisation of the project and the Scottish Whisky Association's goal of a carbon-neutral whisky industry by 2040. ???? The Speyside Hydrogen project is set to play a key role in reducing the carbon emissions of Moray’s renowned distillers, with the potential to produce up to 25 tonnes of electrolytic green hydrogen daily, the project aims to reduce CO? emissions for the industry by over 50,000 tonnes annually. The appointment of Wood to undertake FEED follows the submission of a planning application?to Moray Council in late February. The application is now under review by the local authority, and we are hopeful for a positive outcome in the coming months. If approved, construction is expected to begin in 2026. ??? “The report makes clear that securing a final investment decision (FID) for Acorn is essential to Grangemouth’s future.” Acorn General Manager, Nic Braley, has welcomed the publication of the Project Willow report on the future of Grangemouth. In the report, based on a joint-funded study by UK and Scottish governments, Acorn is inherent to the workstreams that will ensure the long-term viability of the site. This includes access to Acorn’s CO2 transportation and storage network to reduce emissions from the Central Belt, and as the catalyst for developing cleaner fuels that will unlock new market opportunities. ?? "The GOVERNMENT OF MALAYSIA have delivered a clear statement of intent with the introduction of the 'Carbon Capture Storage, Utilization and Storage Bill 2025' to Parliament today. The Government of Malaysia, and Economy Minister, Rafizi Ramli, have astutely recognised that CCS can deliver transformative economic benefits for the country, forecasting that the CCS industry could 'generate over 200,000 jobs and add up to $250 billion to its economy within 30 years'. Crucially, Minister Rafizi Ramli, has identified that increasing global competition between states to develop CCS hubs will define the future energy landscape. I urge all governments with interests in CCS to follow Malaysia's lead and establish clear policy frameworks that will support the development of their national industries.? We commend and support the Malaysian Government's positive and urgent action to establish itself as a leader in low-carbon technology in the region. Storegga remains committed to jointly studying and developing CCS facilities in the Penyu Basin, offshore Malaysia, with PETRONAS and XRG. Reiterating the Report's most crucial insight for UK industry, Tim highlighted that: "For the UK’s hard-to-decarbonise sectors, the Climate Change Committee clearly states that there is no route to Net Zero that does not include CCS”.
