... so, haaaave you met Heidi? ??♀? Recently promoted to Director of Product Support, Heidi Nace is not only a leader here at SENS, but also quite an adventurer, one that likes to take on the unknown. ?? She has spent over two decades with us ensuring top-quality products and guiding new engineers and, in celebration of World Engineering Day, we sat down with her for a chat. ??? ???? ??????????, ?????? ?????? ?????? ?????? ???????? ??????????????????????? Heidi: I liked and was good at math and science in school. You look at the aptitude test and think, what can I do with that? Engineering seemed like a good fit, and looking back it was clearly the right choice for me. ?????? ?????? ???????? ???????? ???? ???????? ??????????????? I started in tech support. Then I moved into engineering, focusing on test validation and compliance, and led development of the IQ charger. Now, I help guide new product introductions, which is exciting as our technology keeps evolving. No week ever goes as planned! I spend a lot of time answering questions, helping production, troubleshooting issues, and making sure everything keeps moving. I also work closely with the team to pass on knowledge and refine troubleshooting skills. ???????????????? ??????????????? MG2. It’s such an innovative product: compact, modular, and the foundation of many of our products. I also wrote a significant chunk of the test code for the PowerCab. Seeing it in action makes all the effort worth it. ???????? ???? ?????? ???????? ?????????? ?????????????? ???? ????????? The people. Everyone here cares deeply about quality and works hard to maintain it. The products are technically interesting, and there’s always something new to learn. The fast pace can be stressful, but that’s part of what keeps it exciting. ?????? ?????? ???????????? ?????? ?????????????????? ?????????????? ????????? Work hard, be curious, and don’t be afraid to share ideas. Engineers sometimes get conservative, but creativity is key to innovation. The best solutions come from thinking outside the box, so keep questioning and pushing the limits of what’s possible. ???????? ???? ?????? ???? ?????????????? ???? ????????? I love getting outside - hiking, camping, and exploring. I’ve climbed one 14er, let's see if I do another. ?? A perfect weekend is a morning hike, good food, and a movie with my family. If something goes wrong in manufacturing, even the best-designed products can fail. ?? A wire connection torqued incorrectly, a barely visible solder joint flaw - small mistakes that can cause big problems in the field. That’s why at SENS, we use burn-in testing to catch failures before they reach customers. Burn-in testing has nothing to do with fire, though. ?? It’s a controlled process where we cycle temperatures and apply real-world operating conditions to expose hidden weaknesses in solder joints, connectors, and electronic components. This technique, long used in military and aerospace applications, helps ensure products are rock solid before they ship. Some of our products, like the MicroGenius 2 and EnerGenius DC, go through controlled burn-in to ensure every unit leaving our facility is ready for the long haul. ?? And while burn-in sounds power-intensive, our MG2 test rigs actually recycle 70% of the energy used, keeping the process efficient. We’ve been doing this for decades because the results speak for themselves: lower failure rates, higher reliability, and fewer headaches for customers. No one asked for the SuperTorque 8Z - because it didn’t exist yet. We created it by listening, analyzing real-world problems, and drawing on three decades of customer feedback. That background revealed a way to eliminate unnecessary bulk, weight, and complexity while extending service life. The result is a product a quarter of the size and one-seventh the weight of traditional systems, with far greater longevity. ??
