International Women’s Week WIT 25 Date Released. Hattie Hasan MBE and Mica May, Directors of Stopcocks Group Limited and organisers of WIT events (the only by tradeswomen - for tradeswomen events in UK) since 2017, have chosen International Women’s Week and Women In Construction Week to formally announce the date of this year’s WIT event. WIT will take place on Friday 4th?July. We have a last minute change of venue and will release that as soon as the new venue has been confirmed. As usual the all-day event will feature a professional speaker, roundtable discussions of issues relevant to tradeswomen, personal/professional development, shared experiences from tradeswomen, food, the fabulous raffle and lots of opportunities to meet and talk to other tradeswomen and our wonderful sponsors – already committed are: Kohler/Mira, Vaillant UK, Monument Tools, Sureserve, Octopus, Mark Vitow and City Plumbing. Founder Hattie Hasan MBE says?“It’s really brilliant this year to see the range of initiatives to encourage women and girls into skilled trades.? Octopus completed a heat pump installation in Devon,?using the first ever all-women team of engineers just last week, Touchwood Southwest are celebrating Women In Construction Week with a great video showcasing UK tradeswomen from all around the UK and Oaklands College are running a competition for women and girls on their plumbing and electrical courses. It's so necessary for tradeswomen to be seen. We’re still struggling to get a higher representation of women in trades than 2%. In spite of almost a quarter of all women wanting to come into trades, our percentage continues to grow incredibly slowly. We need more role models, opportunities to show off our fantastic skills and what a satisfying career choice skilled-trades can be!” Tickets for WIT will be released before the end of March – once the new venue is signed and sealed, and are free for all tradeswomen/tradeswomen in training and sponsor reps.? Tickets for all other interested parties are a mere £60. Early Bird rates are still available for sponsors who pay before the end of March. Shameless plug alert!! The event is also looking for sponsors. Sponsors must pass an onboarding process specifically aligned with Inclusivity and Diversity. Its also a fab conversation with Mica, that I totally recommend.

  • Excited to hear the latest no hold's barred podcast from #KickingTheDoorDown tomorrow. Debbie Airey hosts our #Founder; #maintenance & #construction #thoughtleader Hattie Hasan MBE. Hattie has gone where no-one has gone before for most of her life. She founded Stopcocks Women Plumbers way back in 1990 and STOPCOCKS GROUP LIMITED more recently. The ONLY by and for #event for all #tradeswomen in construction and maintenance #WIT is her brainchild. This unique and highly successful event is will be in its fabulous 8th year in 2025. Hattie has been speaking aloud the stories we hear day in and day out from tradeswomen largely alone for over 30 years and stated WIT because she recognised that other tradeswomen, just like her, simply don't get to talk to other #women in #skilledtrades because our numbers are so few. #isolation #mentalhealth #breakingboundaries #smashingtheceiling #womenleaders #equity #inclusion

The day that strikes fear (and excitement in equal measure) in every marketer....Brand Campaign launch day ?? Every year the pressure to better the one before is real but this is my favourite one yet. Such a different direction for the brand, it elevates the role of the humble shower by showcasing the emotional impact showering can have on us in our everyday lives. Huge thanks to Ryan Kell and Megan Cox-Chanin, as well as Sophie Crawford Adam Knott Sarra Yaya who have all played a huge part in creating such a beautiful film. Can't wait to see it on TV ??!

There is a moment of everyday, when you can close the door on the world and breathe. A chance to recharge, to reflect and reconnect, with the person who's most important. You. This is more than a shower. ??Visit www.mirashowers.co.uk #MiraShowers

Attending my first Women Installers Together conference set up by the amazing STOPCOCKS GROUP LIMITED. Last week I took a nice early train to London and enjoyed the commute with a good book and a coffee. Interestingly, working from a home office mostly, I relish the chance to get in the hustle and bustle and get stuck in during a busy commute and actually miss it somewhat. This was their 7th year, outgrowing other venues and the number of women travelling to the annual event just keeps growing. I was greeted with coffee and pastries and a rather generous and substantial goody bag. With a chance to network, I felt lost, honestly, everyone seemed to know each other, I was a minority in a minority group - it was strange. Let me explain, with less than 3% of the HVACR trade made up of women, it was a place I thought I would feel my place, but I was a minority again, as only a handful of women there were 'off the tools'. As the morning went on, latecomers arrived, the round tables filled up and the day began. I met women who were installers, plumbers, tilers, electricians and I am sure more than I was yet to meet. It just got better and better, sharing stories of being in a male-dominated trade, the challenges faced with people the female engineers arriving to carry out work, or customers that refuse to speak to us, because we are female and the constant 'Can I speak to an engineer' even though you're more than qualified and experienced to help. I met some very experienced, highly qualified women, doing a fab job whilst facing more challenges than ever before both in the trade and their own work life. I am hoping to meet more women now over the course of this year, that lead, and lead the HVACR business, which is 'off the tools' and in the trade, to see how we can work together in what can be a very lovely and under represented environment. When I graduated with my Business Degree last year, I had never felt being female disqualified me to do anything, I had always felt empowered, and encouraged by both men and women around me, to be who I wanted to be. This year has taught me how much you need cheerleaders in your life, and yes, they can be from any background, in any role and identify however they life - find your cheerleaders - that is exactly what I set out to gain from this day and hope to continue finding.
