Thank you for hosting an inspiring evening with the grantees!
Last night, Citizens Committee for New York City held space for our grantee partners to reflect on the current political landscape, discuss the potential impact of the new administration’s policies on their communities, and explore ways we can stand in solidarity. Amid concerns about the future, one thing was clear: in community and collaboration, we have the strength to weather the storm and continue transforming our city into the one we deserve. We’re proud to support the dreamers and changemakers working tirelessly to build a more just and equitable world—a world at hand but not yet in hand.

Grateful to be including in conversations about community and hope, especially right now. Thanks, Marci Alboher and CoGenerate!
Articles that take a wide look at a big topic are a rare treat for me to write, but when the subject is the myriad ways people help each other in their communities it's really special. Some of the things I learned about include: seniors volunteering to help each other age in place and stay connected, programs that connect generations all over the country to improve communities, support for walking and biking to school for health and connection, transportation options for people with different abilities and needs .... all of it inspiring to me.

Grateful for this beautiful article by The Greater Good Science Center, including a wonderful shoutout for Stoop Stories by our friends at CoGenerate. Thank you, Eunice Lin Nichols, Marc Freedman and the entire team at CoGenerate...and for your inspiring leadership in generational connection.
What's giving you hope right now? For me and Marc Freedman, my co-conspirator at CoGenerate, intergenerational collaboration has always been -- and continues to be -- the short bridge to hope, with the power to transform our thinking, our relationships, our work, and our lives. Shoutout to the many collaborators we work with who are choosing to double down on intergenerational interdependence in a time of so much division, including Citizen University, Stoop Stories, Third Act, and the 167 amazing leaders who just completed our 5-week community of practice focused on cogenerational solutions to social isolation and loneliness. Good morning, friends. Many of us are feeling big and intense feelings today. Please remember to breath and take the best care of yourself. Know that you are not alone. We can be here for each other. And the work we're doing to bring people together, and highlight the most marginalized people is more important than ever. Sending love and hope. If you're in the Downtown Brooklyn area, join a compassionate gathering on my stoop tomorrow night, Thurs 11/6, 7pm. Message me for deets.

?? MEET THE TEAM MONDAYS ?? Kathleen Donohoe (she/her) is the author of the novels Ghosts of the Missing and Ashes of Fiery Weather, which was named one of Book Riot’s 100 Must-Read New York City Novels. Her stories and essays have appeared in WebConjunction, Washington Square News, SNReview, Harpur Palate, Irish America Magazine, and the anthology The Writing Irish of New York. She also writes on Medium at https://lnkd.in/gD5iYzBq Kathleen grew up on Avenue J in Midwood. Her mother was a nurse at Kings County Hospital, and her father and four uncles were New York City firefighters. An amateur genealogist, she spends a great deal of time poring over censuses and other records, piecing together the lives of her ancestors, most of whom resided in Manhattan and Brooklyn. This work has led her to appreciate the need to preserve the stories of New Yorkers, in their own voices. Besides Midwood, she has lived in Brooklyn Heights, Carroll Gardens and Park Slope. For the past five years, she has been living in Kensington, where she spent all of quarantine in an eight-hundred-square foot apartment with her husband and son. Currently she is at work on her next novel, Saints in Brooklyn. Kathleen is a long time volunteer with Stoop Stories and we are grateful for her beautiful stories and support.
