Martin Deakin Chart.PR MCIPR achieved chartership with the Chartered Institute of Public Relations two years ago. Let's hear his experience: What's the assessment like? ?? The day was split into three sections – strategy, ethics and leadership. We had to read a resource for each section and answer a series of questions on the day. I was a bit nervous going into the assessment but over the course of the day, I eased into it. Everyone was very friendly and supportive, and it was unusual because I was the only person coming in from an agency. What's the best thing about being Chartered? ??? It’s more than a few letters after your name. Chartered status demonstrates breadth of experience and a solid commitment to the CIPR’s ethical values – and this is invaluable when meeting clients or anyone else in my day-to-day job. According to the CIPR, 71 per cent of the public would trust a chartered practitioner more, which I think speaks volumes. How does being Chartered influence your day-to-day? ??? The CPD I continue to complete with the CIPR really aids my skills as a consultant. Even though I've reached chartership, continuing my learning and keeping up with industry shifts is vital. As well as my day-to-day role, I volunteer as Secretary of the CIPR’s Public Affairs Group. I’ve been doing this for over a year now, and my role involves coordinating the committee’s blog and newsletter, helping organise events and networking with other CIPR members.
