Elizabeth Dole was the first female appointed to the position of Secretary of Transportation in 1983 and is the recipient of both the Humanitarian Award from the National Commission Against Drunk Driving and the Lifetime Achievement Award from Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety, in addition to many other accolades and accomplishments. Elizabeth Dole made major impacts during her years in public service, including the widespread enactment of seat belt safety laws, airbags in cars, and the 21-year-old drinking age. Highlighting Elizabeth Dole on the final day of Women's History Month serves as a perfect segue into April, which is Distracted Driving Awareness Month and host to National Work Zone Safety Awareness Week. #WomenInTransportation #SayItWithStokes #WomensHistoryMonth

Helen Mary Schultz launched the county's first women-owned bus line in Iowa in 1922. It was called the Red Ball Transportation Company and started with a single line that ran between Charles City and Waterloo, IA. Despite opposition from railroad companies and facing bias due to being a woman business owner, Schultz became nationally known as the "Iowa Bus Queen," and ran the business successfully through the 1920s. Schultz was considered a trailblazer in the transportation industry, and as a fellow women-own business in the same industry, Stokes takes pride in highlighting her achievements during Women's History Month. #WomensHistoryMonth #SayItWithStokes #WomenInTransportation

Annie Cohen Kopchovsky, aka Annie Londonderry, was the first woman to bicycle around the world. In 1894, Annie embarked on a 15-month journey around the globe, biking approximately 7,000 miles. While much of her journey was facilitated by trains and steamboats, Annie rode her bicycle through Europe, Africa, and many countries in Asia. During her ride, Annie served as a moving billboard of sorts, attaching business' advertisements to her bicycle and person for a fee. Undoubtedly, Annie Londonderry would have had great appreciation for the many bike projects that Stokes has worked on over the years, including the Bicycle & Pedestrian Plan for the Borough of Metuchen, NJ. Stokes' work on this project included developing a website, planning and facilitating public events, and promoting the meeting to area stakeholders. Olive Dennis was a pioneer in the American railroad industry, and is still regarded as one of its most notable women. She spent over 30 years working with the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad, focusing mainly on the passenger service and engineering solutions to improve comfortability. Her improvements included the Dennis ventilator, air-conditioning, dimmable lights, individual reclining seats, and stain-resistant upholstery. Over 100 years later, the passenger experience is still paramount to the American railroad industry and supported by the standards that Olive Dennis put in place. Stokes Creative Group is leading Public Outreach efforts for the Newark Penn Station Modernization Project. This project aims to update the existing and iconic Newark Penn Station to meet modern-day expectation of a clean, comfortable, sustainable, world-class travel experience for all passengers. In 1909, Alice Huyler Ramsey made history as the first woman to drive from coast-to-coast. Ramsey began her 3,800-mile journey in Manhattan on June 9th, and arrived 59 days later in San Francisco. Her drive across the country involved minimal paved roads and no map! Alice Huyler Ramsey would've benefited from projects like the New Jersey Turnpike Authority's Interchange 6-9 Widening Program, where improvements were made to 35 miles of roadway. Stokes supported this project with Public Outreach, Marketing and Advertising, Photography, Video Production, and Website Services.
