Last weekend, we brought together over 100 service members in San Diego for the latest California Service Corps Connections event—a day filled with learning, collaboration, and hands-on impact. ??? From insightful workshops to rewarding service projects, the energy at the event was incredible. It was invigorating to witness members engage with one another in conversation and service - sharing their experiences, learning together, and fostering new connections. And of course, no San Diego gathering is complete without amazing food, so we wrapped up the day over delicious enchiladas and burritos from?a local restaurant. Events like these don’t happen without a strong network of support. I am extremely grateful for California Volunteers, Office of the Governor for entrusting us in this partnership & Josh Fryday for his presence at the event and continued leadership. A huge thank you to?Chollas-Mead Elementary (Tom, Martin, Jerry, Karina, and Vice Principal Zarkoski) for welcoming us, to the?San Diego Regional Planning Committee - Monica and Jennifer from PASS AmeriCorps, Elektra F. from Tree San Diego, Diana and Christopher from Notre Dame Mission Volunteers and Vinny from USD College Corps - for shaping this experience, and to our?workshop facilitators—Mandy, Brittany, Briana, Ophelia, Melissa, and Jessica—for leading meaningful discussions. ?? So proud of these California Service Corps Connection Events and grateful to Stockton Service Corps for turning our vision into a wonderful reality! We at California Volunteers, Office of the Governor developed this project with the hopes to provide service members an opportunity to connect with members of different programs in their region and witness the expanse of their impact within the California Service Corps. It has been a thrill to witness rooms full of passionate service members from #AmeriCorps, #CollegeCorps, #CaliforniaClimateActionCorps, & #YouthServiceCorps making new friends and proudly sharing about their programs. 2/6 events successfully completed! ?? Service in Action! ?? Our #CaliforniaServiceCorpsConnections event in San Diego was an incredible success! ?? With over 100 attendees and a special visit from Chief Service Officer Josh Fryday we collectively put in 201 service hours in just 90 minutes to revitalize a local school! ??? ?? What we accomplished: ?? Painted murals & refreshed playground areas ?? Planted shade trees & a native plant garden ?? Organized classrooms, storage, & staff lounges ??? Built furniture & removed 1.5 truckloads of outdated materials and clutter! Huge shoutout to our amazing volunteers, guest speakers, and program staff for making this possible! Touting itself as the first-of-its-kind “place-based” initiative, Stockton Service Corps launched in 2019 with a mission to work with community partners in supporting “cradle-to-career” services in Stockton. Now in its seventh year, the group has worked with hundreds of service fellows, partnered with state and national programs and provided services to thousands of students and dozens of community events.

On Monday, our Restore the Delta team gave back to our Delta communities in honor of MLK Day of Service! Our team had the privilege of volunteering with the Rio Vista Food Pantry and Stockton Service Corps. Service is an important part of what we do, and we’re proud to support our communities all throughout the Delta!
