At STM Weather, our staff of meteorologists make it a priority to stay up-to-date on the latest advancements in atmospheric science. Part of this continuing education process involves taking advantage of opportunities to attend and give presentations at scientific conferences. In this week's blog, Mike recounts what he learned at the Northeast Regional Operational Workshop (NROW) last week, and shares more on the presentations he was able to share with meteorologists from universities, the private sector, and public forecasters. https://lnkd.in/eU6aSx6s

A forecast for rain or snow on Election Day has long been a topic of discussion and study, as for years political experts have tried to link correlations between unfavorable weather and voter turnout. Whenever the race is expected to be tight like it is this year, every possible factor affecting voter turnout is likely to be scrutinized, including the weather. Let’s take a look at who can expect rain (or snow!) on Election Day 2024. https://lnkd.in/ePinDGkm

In case you haven't heard… I wrote a book- especially for gardeners! If you know me or read my blog, you may know that I love gardening - a love that goes back to my childhood (and my Italian roots!) Over the last several years, I have had the pleasure of presenting on weather topics to a variety of gardening clubs, Master Gardener groups, and Cooperative Extensions. I have come to learn that gardeners are very eager to learn "how the weather works" and how it impacts their gardens. Much of the joy I find in being outdoors in my garden is observing the world around me; I have kept a detailed gardening journal for over 10 years! It occurred to me that this way in which I study the weather in my own backyard, track it, and learn from it may not be intuitive to gardeners without a meteorology background. I was also surprised to find that the current market is lacking in a book that explains meteorology in a way which is interesting and applicable to home gardeners. And so, after a great deal of encouragement from my family and colleagues, I am SO proud to share that "Gardening with Your Head in the Clouds: A Weather Primer for Gardeners" will be available for purchase THIS Tuesday, October 22nd! This book has been a true labor of love for me, and one that ties together two of my greatest passions: weather and gardening. I had no idea where to begin when I started, but the process has been one which pushed me out of my comfort zone in the best possible way. I am thankful for the support and encouragement of my family and staff every step of the way. Preorder is available now through @The Troy Book Makers!?It will also be available on Amazon after the launch on October 22. https://lnkd.in/eC4q2BGS #booklaunch #BHG @Viveka Neveln @Sherri Ribbey @Kara Zauberman
