I think one of the best exercises you can practice as a creative is creating for your own fun and entertainment, you learn new things, explore new ideas, collaborate with new people, step away from your comfort zones and dare for more. Lester wrote this short late at night and it took him a couple of hours to finish it, had it on his phone for a few weeks until he decided to give it some life. Our first step was choosing our actors, having the right casting is everything, you can have 100 people on set, but none of that matters if you don’t have the right performance, so shoutout to Joey and Jordan. The second step was feedback, shoutout to our Creative Director Olexiy Kryvych for the help in sharpening the script. Third step, do a “previs” or Pre-visualization with your actors, if possible on the filming location, bring your gaffer to figure out blocking and lighting. You will learn what works and what doesn’t on Previs in regards camera angles and performance. Fourth step, set a filming date and work towards it. We had a clear idea of what we wanted so post production took 1 day between storyline, music, sound design and color grading. Written, produced and edited in house.
