Dismantling inequity by cultivating community connections.
关于我们
St. Francis Neighborhood Center dismantles inequity by cultivating community connections through tailored education and social interventions for West Baltimore. We are a nonprofit, 501(c)(3), a community-based organization in the Reservoir Hill area of Baltimore. Founded in 1963 as an outreach center for two local churches, the Center was incorporated in 1972 as a neighborhood nonprofit corporation, independent of any church affiliation. Since its inception, the Center has served as a resource and catalyst for improving the lives of those in Reservoir Hill. and making Baltimore a better place. Our programs create an approach that builds self-esteem, personal strength, academic, emotional, interpersonal, social, and community development that work to address complex challenges in an effort to break- through the cycles of generational poverty. In an average month, we serve over 300 adults, youth, and families. St. Francis Neighborhood Center has been the only enduring institution to serve this large and diverse community since the riots of 1968. Due to its unwavering dedication, the Center has become an iconic presence within the Reservoir Hill community.

Over the last several years, Team SFNC has dramatically expanded to match the growth of our programs and to meet the needs of our community. To increase effectiveness, we’ve refined our organizational structure, establishing 3 core teams: Program, Operations, and Mission Advancement (formerly Development). Improving organizational effectiveness will remain a critical component of our 2025-2030 Strategic Plan as we enter this exciting new era of growth!

Since 1963, SFNC has served as a safe and welcoming space for residents of West Baltimore, yet we’ve often been limited by our facilities and surrounding landscape. In 2018, we set out on a mission to enhance the safety and security of our Center. Today, we are proud to say that our facilities have been brought up to code, our staff has received CPR/AED and active shooter training, and that we’ve worked with local organizations and municipal agencies to promote safety throughout our surroundings. As we turn a new leaf and prepare to introduce our 2025-2030 Strategic Plan, safety continues to remain at the forefront of what we do!

Since 2018, St. Francis has undergone incredible transformation–-physically, programmatically, and beyond. This kind of growth is not possible without a solid financial foundation. We have introduced added fiscal controls and established a realigned Mission Advancement Team to ensure that SFNC is able to continue to show up for West Baltimore through thick and thin, as we proudly have since 1963. Our 2025-2030 Strategic Plan is coming soon – and, with it, an aggressive strategy to ensure our long-term sustainability!

Our community is critical to the work that we do. Since 2018, we’ve successfully fostered broadened community engagement by expanding our list of partners, developing a formalized framework for managing partnerships, and engaging major stakeholders in our strategic planning process. Although we are excited to move forward with a new set of ambitious goals in our upcoming 2025-2030 Strategic Plan, we will ALWAYS value the importance of centering community within everything that we do. Join us as we turn the page on a new chapter of transformational growth at the corner of Linden and Whitelock! 2025-2030 Strategic Plan coming soon!

That being said -- there are still ways to support this program if you haven't already. We're currently seeking a number of items on our Amazon Wish List to serve as supplemental gifts for our program families, ranging from winter clothes, household essentials, and more. ?? Today, we want to give a heartfelt "thank you" to all the veterans in our community for their service. Please join us in reflection as we look back on moments like this ceremonial flag-folding demonstration, led by two community members at our Stoop Night at Dorothy I. Height Elementary School in June.
