Here For Equity, There For Our Students

关于我们

The mission of Steps to Success is to promote equity for students from low-income families in Brookline by expanding their horizons, building upon their skills, and supporting their educational journey in order to maximize their life choices. Steps to Success, Inc. was launched in 2001. Initially, the key objectives of the program were to facilitate the academic and personal success of children from low-income families, and to ensure educational equity. Home visits and support for parent participation in the Steps to Success mission were early components of the program.? ? STS is the only Brookline program addressing the educational needs of children living in low-income households. Starting in grade 4, STS helps low-income students not only graduate but thrive academically in high school, matriculate into college, and obtain their college degree. We have a proven track record in narrowing the opportunity gap between low-income students and their higher-income counterparts in Brookline.

We are so grateful to City Kids Boston and City Realty Group for their support today of one of our post-secondary success programs! Providing our students with worships to build their career-readiness skills is a key way in which we work to close the opportunity gap in Brookline.

?? Exciting day at Brookline High ?? City Kids hosted a career pathways session with Steps to Success, diving into the world of real estate with their students. Our amazing speakers, Markese Daise, Sammy Cintra, and Cristian Lorenzo, shared insights of the field and answered questions, sparking a vibrant discussion about the many facets of real estate careers. Grateful for the engagement and enthusiasm from these fantastic students! Greatful to support this amazing organization and a big thank you to Destuania Perry & Nia Jacobs for having us today. ???? #CityKids #CityRealtyBoston #RealEstateCareers #StepsToSuccess #EmpowerTheYouth

Steps decided to approach our fall fundraising campaign, Stepping Back to School, a little differently this year. The campaign, which will conclude this Saturday, is a celebration of student voices and student perspectives. Throughout the week we have been sharing our students’ thoughts on the start of the school year - from what makes them nervous, to what makes them excited, to what new approaches they are taking to their learning journeys. For example, Cindy, a sophomore at UConn, had this to share: “Steps to Success helped me start off my first year of college and I am excited to maintain that support while also gaining more experience. With the start of a new semester, I am looking forward to hanging out with my friends and also meeting new people. I am also excited to join a new club and hope to gain a lot of skills from it! On the other hand, I am a little nervous about my workload since I am taking some harder classes. I know I will need to make those classes a priority.” We encourage you to check us out on Facebook (https://lnkd.in/entFr7ui) and Instagram (instagram.com/stsbrookline) to learn more! Our students range from 3rd graders to college seniors, and we are truly grateful to those who agreed to share their diverse perspectives with the wider Steps community. Steps takes a student-centered approach in everything we do, and we have loved sharing the voices of the students who are at the heart of our work.

Historic inflation has made this back-to-school season more financially strenuous than ever before for our families. We have been hard at work ensuring that our students all have a backpack full of school supplies; that our high school students have the equipment they need to immerse themselves in extracurricular activities; and that each of our college students has an experienced advisor in their corner to help them navigate their academic and financial needs. Our programs work because we deeply understand and can directly address the resource shortfalls faced by many of our students. However, for Steps, promoting educational equity also means helping our students achieve their long-term goals. We have also been working to enroll students in our after-school programs, which will supply them with homework support, STEM exposure, and art enrichment. We have been working with our partners to secure school-year internships for high school students, which will engage them in career development beyond the summer months. And we have been working alongside our college students to not only graduate but also proactively plan for their personal and professional aspirations. Steps is committed to not just filling gaps, but also helping our students prepare for tomorrow. Your financial support powers our work. Will you give to Steps as we head into the new school year? Thank you to Brookline.news for reporting on the growth of our programs! In the past four years, Steps has been able to expand after-school programs to another grade of students, widen our college admission and career exploration programs for high school students, and award scholarships to far more college students than we were ever able to support before. If you are interested in helping us sustain our programs for years to come - we encourage you to reach out today. https://lnkd.in/egJ6Jgcj
