These topics align closely with the objectives of the Horizon Europe project STEP UP, which aims to enhance the sustainability of European livestock farming by integrating innovative practices to improve efficiency, reduce environmental impact, and promote animal welfare. ?? ?? STEP UP Consortium Meeting 2025 ?? Last week, the STEP UP project held its second annual consortium meeting in Novi Sad, Serbia (Feb 26-27)! ?? Over two days, we reviewed project progress, discussed key results, and most importantly strengthened collaboration among 16 partner organisations working towards more sustainable livestock farming. ?? Key topics covered: ? Defining essential indicators for Innovative Livestock Production Systems (ILPS) ? Planning ILPS implementation in sustainable livestock farming ? Modelling transition paths for European Livestock Production Systems (ELPS) ? Scenario assessments within a Safe and Just Operating Space (SJOS) ? ?? Exciting News! ??The STEP UP project is now part of the AGMEMOD Network – a key milestone in our mission to advance sustainable European livestock production! ?? Why is this important? AGMEMOD (alongside CAPRI and MAFSEU), will be key in modelling future scenarios for European livestock systems, helping policymakers develop strategies that balance economic, environmental, and social sustainability. ?? What’s next? STEP UP will contribute to enhancing AGMEMOD by improving how it represents the diversity of EU livestock production systems. These refinements will provide better insights into how policies impact farmers, food security, and the environment. ?? Led by: Thünen Institute, with support from Wageningen University & Research. The Federal Office for Agriculture and Food (BLE), is a federal agency operating in the domain of the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL). ?? BLE is working in several areas under the Standing Committee on Agricultural Research (SCAR) of the Directorate-General Research and Innovation (DG RTD) and has more than 15 years of experience in the initiation and management of projects under various EU research framework programmes. ???? BLE coordinates STEP UP’s first work package and provides a link to the SCAR’s Collaborative Working Group on Sustainable Animal Production (CWG SAP), a group of representatives of national ministries in the field of livestock farming.
