MEET NEW STEP SCHOLAR, Melissa V! ?? Melissa is an active leader at her school, balancing academics, athletics, and extracurriculars. She’s part of varsity cheer, soccer, and volleyball, manages basketball teams, and contributes to school journalism, yearbook, drama, and social media. She’s also earning college credits through the ACE/Healthcare program at South Mountain Community College! Melissa joined STEP because she believes in the doors it can open for her future. "I have faith and trust that STEP will help me achieve my dream scholarships and acceptances into my dream schools. Not only will STEP help me with school, but it will help me discover new skills and talents that I never knew I possessed." Her ultimate goal? To attend a top university and become a pediatric doctor. "I know getting accepted into a doctoral program requires high-level work completed at a respected institution, and I’m willing to put in the effort to get there." We're excited to support Melissa on her journey. Stay tuned for more scholar spotlights! #STEPCollegePrep #ThisIsSTEP #STEPPERSinAction #STEPClassof2027

Desiree just matched with Washington University in St. Louis—her dream school! ? As I clicked on my application decision, I closed my eyes and opened them to see ‘Congratulations, Desiree!’ I started screaming and immediately went to tell my family. I CRIED as I celebrated my acceptance to my dream school." Desiree, a first-gen, low-income student, once thought in-state was her only option—but STEP changed her perspective on higher education. "Without STEP, I would’ve never attended WashU’s fly-in program, where I immediately fell in love with WashU and what it had to offer. I never would have learned about my dream school in the first place if it weren’t for STEP." Next for Desiree: WashU’s Class of 2029! Drop a ?? in the comments to celebrate! #STEPCollegePrep #equaleducation #equalopportunity #ThisIsSTEP #STEPsuccessstory

Did you know that we offered two new summer programs for STEP scholars?! 1?? SEAscapes: An onshore program divided into two themes, “Introduction to Oceanography” and “Oceans and Society.” Students conducted scientific fieldwork and learned about the history of Cape Cod as a center of global maritime trade and commercial fisheries. 2?? SEA Expedition: An offshore sailing expedition aboard the tall ship Corwith Cramer! Students sailed the waters of New England, learned navigation and sail handling, participated in watch rotations, and conducted scientific deployments. ?? Here's what scholar Mishka S. shared about her experience: "The biggest lesson I learned was to try everything and never miss an opportunity. Sailing was truly an amazing and educating experience' it has actually helped me rediscover my passion for oceanography and marine sciences. I want to use the knowledge I gained during the trip for an upcoming science competition... And this trip has inspired me to embrace my passion for marine biology!" Thank you to our partners at Sea Education Association for helping bring this to life! #STEPcollegeprep #equalopportunity #ThisIsSTEP #STEPPERsInAction #equaleducation
