关于我们

Technology Access Foundation (TAF), founded in 1996, is a Seattle-based non-profit leader rooted in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education. TAF provides an equitable public school STEM education for underserved students and support for educators of color. We make systemic change through creative partnerships within public education and STEM industries. We address three problems that keep underserved students away from STEM and essentially disqualify them from competing and thriving in today’s society: 1) Low expectations 2) A shortage of role models in STEM 3) Lack of access to quality, STEM-focused education We use STEM education as a tool for social change and educational equality. Our targeted approach for addressing longstanding historical inequities for students of color develops leadership and citizenship in ALL students. TAF is a pioneer in education. We focus our partnership efforts to provide students the kind of education they couldn’t get through a typical charter or public school. We provide innovative learning models, professional development for teachers, and opportunities for students and teachers to learn from and work alongside STEM professionals and use cutting-edge technology. The stakes are high, and as a whole, we can’t afford to lose bright minds to poverty or to lose jobs to nations that are better prepared. Most importantly, we can’t afford to miss out on what any one of these students has to offer.

  • The 100th day of school is more than a milestone — it’s a celebration of growth, creativity, and academic exploration. Back in February, a TAF partner school’s kindergarten and 1st grade students commemorated this day with vibrant student-made posters that tied in early math skills, including fraction work and number sense. These activities help students build autonomy, express their learning visually, and understand key math concepts in a joyful and age-appropriate way. As educators, it’s inspiring to watch how much students grow — especially in early grades where development is exponential. Kudos to Mrs. P and her students for their 100% effort in bringing learning to life! #100thDayOfSchool #EarlyLearning #CreativeLearning #WeLoveLearning #TAFPartnerSchool #TacomaSchoolDistrict

  • Often folks ask us what our curriculum is. My answer is, we don't have one. We are focused on pedagogy (how teacher deliver the curriculum to students), which means we have to adapt to whatever curriculum the schools have - and believe me, it's a heavy lift because just as we get use to one curriculum, they're rolling out another. This episode is about making curricular content more relevant to students. We help teachers go beyond the books they are given and widen their net for the right content for the intent of the curriculum. Enjoy and please pass along. And if you like it, take a minute to rate it and leave us a comment on what you want to learn about next.

  • ?? Empowering Students for Their Future: Career and College Readiness at Highline College At TAF, we believe in the power of experiential learning—and our recent Life After High School (LAH) College and Career Fair at Highline College was a perfect example. These moments provide invaluable opportunities for students to see and experience how their learning sets them up for the career of their choosing. Students stepped beyond their textbooks to engage directly with college faculty, explore campus resources, and learn about academic and career pathways available after high school. By immersing students in a real college setting and connecting them with professional community partners, we help equip them with the knowledge, confidence, and awareness needed to navigate post-secondary education and future careers. Thank you to Highline College and all our community partners for making this impactful experience possible! To see the STEMbyTAF model at work, join us at TAF’s Varsity Luncheon at 11AM on April 16th at the Amazon Meeting Center! • The Convening: Our Liberation is Tied- Bringing us Together and Moving Us Forward On March 22nd, we gathered for our 3rd annual Convening. This year, our theme is “Our Liberation is Tied”; because nobody is truly free unless all of us are free. The Convening was a powerful day of reflection, learning, and community building designed to explore liberation pedagogy and its impact on education. The day featured keynote speakers Dr. Django Paris and Dr. Chelsea Craig and the power of relationships, thought provoking workshops, and joyful moments such as the Evergreen Highschool’s Mariachi Ocote performance, and Mari Shibuya’s live mural painting of the keynote themes. Thank you to the educators, students, community leaders, and advocates who made the day so impactful. Together, we’re building an educational landscape where equity, belonging, and creativity lead the way. Our next major TAF event is the Varsity Luncheon: Courage to Act on April 16th. This isn’t your average fundraiser – this is a chance to see the impact of our work across the TAF organization in action.
