Happy Women’s History Month 2025! The theme for this year’s reflection and celebration is "Moving Forward Together! Women Educating and Inspiring Generations". The National Women’s History Alliance sees this month as an opportunity to recognize the contributions of women to education, mentoring, and leadership; to motivate women to pursue education and leadership positions; and to raise awareness about the impact and influence of women in leadership roles. All the activities and work of the STEM-UP Network narrow the gender talent gap in the STEM workforce! Yesterday we onboarded over 30 mentoring pairs (over 60 women mentors and mentees) into our 2025 STEM-UP Mentoring cohort. Today we celebrate the power of mentoring with International Mentoring Day! Research shows that mentors benefit from these relationships by gaining leadership experience, feeling productive and successful, having increased feelings of personal satisfaction and positive work attitudes, gaining opportunities to share, gaining more visibility and recognition, and establishing new connections. The research also shows that mentees benefit from mentoring relationships because they become more goal oriented; armed with strategies to ask for what they need, want and deserve; are more likely to persist and advance in their STEM careers; gain new connections, opportunities and career navigation skills; and become more productive and less stressed. Today is a good day to celebrate, and be thankful for, the mentors in our life and work!
