Did you know that computer science is the number one source of all new wages in the United States? In Pennsylvania, there are more than 11,000 open computer science jobs. Yet, less than 10% of our K-8 students have access to a weekly computer science course. And this past year, we've graduated zero teachers certified to teach computer science in our K-12 classrooms. No new teachers are coming to fill these critical vacancies. By 2030, 95% of American jobs will require digital literacy. Today, 56 million American adults are digitally illiterate. We can't let this continue. Our children deserve better. They deserve the tools and education to thrive in a digital world. Join me in supporting computer science education for all. We celebrated the day at the Best of the Batch Foundation alongside Jerome Bettis, Pittsburgh Steelers rookies, and Housing Authority of the City of Pittsburgh to provide an afternoon of STEM activities. The kids built LED bracelets, completed a Steelers-themed challenge with Ozobots, and created Happy Juneteenth signs on the W.O.W.
